Hi all, this is my first post, but I've been a long-time lurker. I'm super excited about this game, and I have a question, if anyone can answer it, about the ploppables. As I understand there will be ploppable landmarks and skyscrapers. While I like organic growth, I'm okay with ploppables too, but one thing that always bugged me aabout the ones in SimCity 4 was that they were essentially nonfunctional decorative buildings. In other words, they didn't add jobs or residents or anything. I really hope this won't be the case with Cities: Skylines! Functioning ploppables are a must for me! Any idea if this is something that the developers are planning? Thanks!

They will have functionality attached to them :) And welcome to the forums!

Sorry but I am soooooo against plopable skyscrapers seeing my first skyscraper grow in my city brings tears to my eyes(not really). So I hope skyscrapers spawn not plopped!!!

Appartently there will be both, but spawn ones will have a 4x4 base (therefore will be limited in height), whereas bigger ones will be ploppable.
I think this makes sense.

I'm not too happy with the ploppable idea (ain't it ironic that a game called "Cities Skylines" won't have organic skylines). You should at least have to work very hard to unlock them.

There is a plugging to make them functional.

Great! Thanks for the reply!

I personally am okay with ploppable skyscrapers, particularly if they still have some kind of "construction" phase and aren't just literally plopped in like in SimCity 4. Really large building projects in real cities typically require a lot of government planning, and I can imagine that "plopping" a monument is much like a city government-planned building project, which is fine.

Yeah, I think one of the Dev's mentioned that the small skyscrapers will just grow from office zones if they fit the 4x4 area. If it's a taller building that needs a bigger space than a 4x4 area, it will have to be plopped. They're basically making it so that plopped buildings can be bigger than 4x4 zones while zoned buildings can go farther than 4x4. IMO it makes sense, office skyscrapers can be different base sizes, which gives a more realistic feel.

I'm only hope that for ploppable skyscrapers will be also animation with scaffolding and cranes?
My hope for this too!

But yes you have to work hard economically to deserve a big skyscraper so I hope it unlocks very late when you have a great CBD, or smaller older plop-able buildings first and the most nice skyscrapers later.

So don't build them, if you don't like them? I never build them in SC4.
