@VinceDN I am necromancing this thread to show my appreciation for this tool. I'm working on the Edge of Darkness mod that uses the HoI 3 style for its shields, and could not find its template ANYWHERE on the web. I finally ran across this tool which accomplished exactly what I needed. Thank you so much for putting this together, it worked flawlessly and is built very professionally.

Since this thread is already resurrected, I would like to ask anyone (and the creator, if he visits this place still) using this dainty program, do they experience the same "bugs" as me. I don't want to report any errors, as I tested this piece of software only on one computer with only one particular version of PS and those mistakes might be WADs, even if that wasn't stated anywhere.

Mainly, I use it to create shields in Hearts of Iron 3 style, but it seems the contrast/brightness levels of the implemented template weren't correctly configured. I had to create an additional set of commands and add them manually, since the second and fourth parts of any given shield were the same as the others; but the second needs to be quite a bit brighter and the fourth needs to be a lot darker than the first and third.

And the second issue is that when I'm finished with creating a shield and flag, saved them and press the "Play" button for the third time to reset the program - one of the templates pops up in place, forcing me to reload the whole .PSD. Plus, if no one noticed until now, the included .ATN file is titled v6.4 and the package is v6.5. It might be of importance, it might be not.

But enough of this - with this creation I produced approx. 150 of nice, shiny shields and flags with less effort than it would require with the original Easy Flag Maker. This how winning is done and all of that thanks to you, comrade!

Hey @Czudak X and @JJMerrill erill ,

Wow - it's nice to see this is still being used. I actually forgot I'd made it in the first place, it's only through the Notificatons bar that I was teleported back here. But I can take no credit, the groundwork was laid by Fredericus Rex in his original Flag Maker, I simply updated the code in 2013.

As for the bugs appearing: I'm afraid I made this .PSD so long ago I cannot promise it will continue to work. It was originally made on a CS5 license, four years later we have at least seven new Photoshop updates between now and then so bugs are bound to appear. I'm currently no longer modding DH/HOI3 because I'm working on Kaiserreich HOI4 and will not be updating this tool anymore. However, you are free to take the .PSD like I did with the original Flag Maker and update it yourself.

Good luck modding!

Hello @VinceDN ,

I understand that you don't remember much about this program, but I was wondering if you do know how to fix this little bug that's been happening. The basic explanation is that the flag maker sometimes removes or forgets some colours during the flag generation process, which makes it impossible for the result to be correct. For example:

Thanks for your time.

Thanks for your time.
Try flattening your PSD into one layer (layer -> merge visible) before running and see if that works

After I made that post, I was able to successfully create a 'shield' for that flag, but the (waving) flag bmp still becomes messed up. For example:

But when I just copy the layer that is selected at the step where I am supposed to save the file, my clipboard picks up this:

No Green Mask

The program seems to be 'working' correctly, but it looks like there's a layer that blocks small details from flags or simplifies colours. I had a similar problem with the Stars and Bars where the flag would just be blue and red, with nothing in the canton and no white stripes. How can I fix this?

EDIT: It turns out that the two layers responsible for the messed up waving flag files are 'Layer 96' and 'Layer 97', or the two layers above Layer 4. Making them invisible makes the file correct. Why do these layers even exist?

no responnse.
Not sure I understand the question. Do you mean if the flag is historical and actually existed? Or do you mean, if the style of the flag/shield is authentic to DH; as opposed to shield styles found in HOI3 and HOI.

I followed the directions in the readme file to the letter. But I'm still not having success, since I get the error messages:

The object "layer "HOI3-Style overlays"" is not currently available.

The command "paste" is currently unavailable.

Could not transform the selected pixels because the selected area is empty.

Can anyone help me figure out how to make this work? I have no idea what I'm doing with Photoshop.
