oland And Romania –the end of the USA
Part 3
The road to the wild west…
The pride of the Rumanian Navy
Nantucket Sound, Atlantic Ocean 1:00 PM
The alarm wailed, disturbing the calm sleep of thousands of Rumanian sailors. [It was a was a EEEER ,EEERR, EEERR sound] High above, in the headquarters of the first Rumanian fleet located on the Air carrier “Bucharest” Admiral Georgescu was inventing a battle plan, that would wipe out the bulk of the US navy once and for all. With the Polish troops bombarding Newark, Georgescu knew that the American President will do anything to help the defenders. “The fool” he thought, doesn’t he see that he falling right into my trap?? The Admiral quickly gazed over the tactics map to see what forces are against him. Hmm it would be a tough battle. The Americans have better ships and much more reinforcements in the area. Fortunately, they are eager to help their friends on the coast.
[to the officer on the ship]” We must wait till they send their planes to aid Newark, then our navy will crush them.
[officer saluting] yes Admiral, it will be as you wish.
The enemy is nearby...
The crew assembled in neat rows before their battle stations. The alarm turned quiet and only the familiar red glow of the emergency panels showed the tension of the moment. Corporals started their speeches, captains started giving out orders and finally, tactical officers started shifting the blocks on the map in the headquarters. The battle was about to begin. This will be the day the American Navy would never forget. As pilots run towards their planes, the technicians prepare the runway, allowing the Rumanian aircraft to take of. The brand new destroyer groups surround the precious air carriers from each side, in order to protect them from any danger from the sea
As the fog drops a huge armada appears in front of the Rumanian fleet. Unfortunately, not all of the US air carriers decided to send their planes to the continent. “Not good” Georgescu thought, now we have a problem. The admiral’s decision was quick. He knew he couldn’t abort the operation now, the shame would be unbearable and the moral of Romania’s troops will certainly fall. “Destroyers, aim at the air carriers, especially the flag ship, aircraft, destroy the air carrier runways, that should stop them from striking us back,” The battle has begun, The first fighters met the enemy in the sky above. The killing has started. The US air carriers are now within the fire range of the destroyer flotillas. “To all destroyers, fire” A huge cloud of smoke erupts from the uncountable Rumanian barrels. Fire’s erupt on the decks of many ships. The sea rages with many missiles and ammunition bursting into the water.
The great battle of " Nantucket Sound" begins
The Rumanian bombers annihilate the aircraft decks making it impossible for any planes to start or land. But the Americans fight back. The destroyers are taking heavy blows from the US bombers. Some of the ships are already on fire, the crew is bailing out into the water, swimming towards the remaining part of the fleet. Georgescu leans toward the map, trying to make out what is the enemy trying to accomplish. “The Americans are fleeing!

” he realized. The captain of the flag ship asks him if the fleet should pursue them. “No” said Georgescu, “Let them flee to Newark the Polish Army will take care of them there. What are our losses?’ “None sir, -we have two destroyers heavily damaged and one air carrier, with a wrecked propeller.” The officer replied. “Good” said Georgescu, “And what are the enemy’s casualties?”. “From what we know, 3 heavily damaged air carriers, 5 runaways destroyed and one destroyer lightly damaged.” The officer let out a smile, knowing that the admiral would consider this battle as a success although the US navy certainly wasn’t crushed yet. As the last US planes scattered the Admiral, stepped out of the flag ship headquarters and gazed at the debris in the ocean. “We won” he said, “Maybe this will never be considered as a great victory, but still the only fact that counts now is that we won”…….
The organized escape of the Americans
