Poland Problem

I know the issue about annexing majors has been discussed, but all I found in a search was about how to recode the problem yourself. I don't want to do that, but I would like to make them cease to exist.

Some background info: The year was 1615 and Far East expansion was running smoothly. I decided I had been idle on my western front too long so in Feb I issued a DoW to the Poles. Too make a long story short...by June of 1618 I had completely overrun Poland-Lithuania. 18 provinces were now mine and there was no army left. Nothing. Imagine my distress when I could only get 3 provinces from them.

What should I have done differently? Take 3 provinces at a time and leave Pol-Lith with 1? Did I miss an option in diplomacy to take them over? I guess I assumed you couldn't diplomatically annex majors, but if you occupy everything they own you should absorb them. Grrr. It was late I and I wasn't happy so I saved and exited out. What is my best option when I reload?

Major powers can't be annexed by any means without tweaking the .eug file. You can take everything but the capital province, in chunks of three at a time, of course.

If the majors are made to be 'annexable', the Offer Peace option to annex appears (just like with minors) when you control every province.

The easiest way is setting no majors at the start IMO, just the country u play with.

Is that with the GC or IGC BiB? Is that done in game or with manipulating some files? I haven't installed the IGC yet in hopes that it will be idiot proof someday.

Small-scale war. Just settle with 2-3 of their provinces, or 2+ 250 gold to cover your expences. And if you have permanent CB on Poland, don't take that province. Then repeat after 5 years. Ok, some calculations: you need to go to war 9 times to get 18 provinces. Each one with 5-year break. So with about 50 years you have conquered Poland anyway. And if you let Poles keep that CB province (if you have one, can't remember), you will suffer no stability for DOWs as well. Naturally, your BB will rise and sooner or later Poland starts their DOWs as well. So you can capture them with even less time. And the only one you wouldn't get is Masovia.

I'm pretty sure you can use the IGC Config program that comes with IGC for non-IGC games so you can just download IGC and get the IGC Config program off the zip file without installing IGC. IGC Config is great for setting this up.

I think I'll do the 2-3 province grab every 5 years as hjarg suggested for this game. I'm definitely going to d/l the IGC for my next game as well.

U can also do it with the regular game but the IGC comes with a nifty little program now to help. Otherwise manipulating files, yes.
