There have been quite a few calls over the past months for using one of the new maps for Aberration.

Initially the maps were not really finished anyway, but I was also concerned about the number of people working on the mod compared to the amount of work required to transform all of the province-specific events (literally thousands) that would need to be changed.

So, let's have a poll. However, if you chose to vote IN FAVOUR of going to a new map, then you will be required to convert an entire major country (of MY chosing :) ) to conform to the new map, along with that country's .inc file.

So, consider carefully, add your preference and we'll see what the response is like.

You could be more explicit: first one to support a new map volunteers to update the colonial and smallpox event files for it. That'd shut 'em up

Even if several people are in favour of a new map, it doesn't mean the majority would agree on the same new map.

Also, until 1.09 comes out, custom maps won't work on the Mac. (They may not even work with 1.09, who knows.) So I don't really have much choice in how I'd vote.

OTOH, I can see two arguments for introducing a new map:

1. In certain fiddly areas, more provinces would actually get used for cores, minors, events etc. For example, I admit that my 'Baltic Peace Conference' event is a bit of a fudge, and if there were lots of provinces around the Gulf of Finland I might have come up with an actual partition. The HRE is also an obvious place for putting in more provinces.

2. To give regions the right amount of 'mass' for BB, stability etc purposes. People will say this is a problem everywhere, but really it's only Siberia and the richest parts of India and East Asia where the current situation seriously distorts gameplay.

So if compatibility issues are resolved, it would be OK to make local alterations to areas where more/fewer provinces would make a real difference. But we don't need to go through all the fuss of a 'global conversion' for a map that realistically portrays the Venetian islands or places US state boundaries correctly.

Im against it, its evil and we should wait until we have minions to do the dirty work.

The big hassle is here is the starting position and the incs. Events only need some minor adjustments imo.

But I agree the main issue is, if the map is finished. I like WATK2 already, I gotta admit, but it may be worth to try WATK4..

That might be true for Aberration 1 ... :p

In general it would appear there is little support even from the first few (but key) responders, with three no votes coming from those who are actually currently working on the mod.

In general, I'm in the same camp as Incompetant. Eastern Russia/Ukraine region needs more provinces, some of which are currently as big as all of England. India needs about twice as many to be even close to sensible. I'd also like to see more in the Americas. And in general I like that conquering a similar sized piece of the planet would now cost more in BB.

But at what cost a new map? It has taken us 8 months to get this far in Aberration II and we just don't have an AGCEEP team here to get things done.

I will keep working on getting Aberration II ready for its first non-Beta release with the current map. (This will be for April.) Then we can all take stock and see what we want to do next. Either move on to Aberrating-II Africa, India and the far East, or else upgrading to a new map if one of them has really emerged as better for our purposes.

The alternative is just to wait until EU3 and spend our energies converting it there. :)

I don´t know If I am so content with some stuff that found its way into Aberration II actually anyway.

We all have our preferences. It's fine not to like chocolate, too. ;)

I vote no... not because i'm against a new map but because, as MattyG says, i think that this question must be posed after Aberration II was "finished".

I will also propose myself to give you some of my spare time in developpement of this great mod. Have you a part of the world, a country, of anything else for my "homeless coding fingers" ?

I the case that you decide to change the map i'm volonteer for the SmallPox file (I'm serious) ;)

Cheers...

New map. Blimey.

I like the principle, but am not looking forward to the work. That said, in my area of interest, Bavaria, Saxony, Brandenburg, Hanover, Holland, Styria, and Tirol need creating, rewriting or editing anyway, so it's really only Hansa, Kalmar, Oldenburg, Milan and Swabia for which a new map would mean work, and even then Hansa and Swabia are the only large files.

It's not really a job I personally would want to start until there was a single agreed, finished, new map. And this map would have to be soooooooo good that no one would want to design a better one in the near future, causing the whole thing to become suddenly obselete....?

If the new map works in AGCEEP, perhaps one of the people involved in that programme can tell us how much work it was to tailor the events to the map.

Not being as diplomatic as MattyG, I would point out that everything in AbeII has been discussed ad nauseum in the Forums, and available in subsequent Betas.

Perhaps you could be a little more specific about what you are not so content with.

I take you back to the following thread, "Silence is a form of Consent", posted waaaaay back in June last year.

You da man, Crio.

I tend to prefer that people are moved to write a particular file because they see a story there. But to give you a few suggestions, it's always good to look into a 'minor' and give it some life.

For a start, all of the Iberian minors have no colour at present. They could use some events, leaders etc, especially things to do with growing instature should they turn the tide on Cordoba (it even happens with the ai in control).

The same is true for the minors in the Balkans.

Or, feel free to start giving serious consideration to Aberrating a new part of the world, like western Africa.

I'm against it for the moment, working on the current map is already a big project, abe is not a small mod. Especially whne modding the ROTW I'm afraid a new map would make things too complicated.
