I have bought the German version of HOI2, and i have remarked, that the portraits of Hitler, Hess, and Himmler are removed in the diplomatic screen, and Himmler also in the tech screen.
Their names are changed in "Hiller", "Hoss", and "Heimmler", this also concerns all texts of events concerning this persons.
IMO this is really ridiculous, i don´t know, who is responsible for this kind of historical "bullshitness", but he/she should be kicked in his button!;-)
I have seen pictures of the American version here in the afteraction reports of this forum, and this version is ok!
Can someone help me to restore this portraits and rechange the names to the real historical facts?
Thank you!

Greetings from Germany

Germany has laws and the German publisher must comply with those laws and also the sensibilities of the German people.
Change your use of language and attitude or you will not be long for these forums.

Hi,

this is the second thread to this theme. As a German you should know that a law from last year has newer and harder restrictions for all “Nazi-themes”. Names of some Nazis (especially the “elite”) have to be changed or not to be used in games. Pradox has “only” changed them a little bit, so everyone with a little bit knowledge of the theme knows which name is correct. Further many pictures of the Nazis have to be erased of games in the German version. If you have HoI (first part) you can see, that only the pictures are missing of some Nazis – the new law is stricter and names have to be changed and some more pictures are missing. Paradox has no other chance if they want to purchase this game in Germany – sad but true…

Yes, i know the harsh German laws concerning Nazi themes, but i don´t understand, that a law leads to a falsification of history, the name of the evilst man in the world is really known to everybody!
There is something wrong with the interpretation of the law in this manner, to spell the names correct and to show portraits has nothing to do with Nazi-propaganda.
You can´t renounce history with concealment and falsification of history.

I fully agree to you – but what should we do? Politicians make laws and not we two :). But I can understood the politicians, too. They fear that nowadays Nazis use this game to glorify this part of the history of Germany.

I am sad that I have bought for € 44 a “half game” that tries to reflect history with wrong names and missing portraits :(

An other way is to import the us-version…and become illegal…or not to play this game…its still a good game…not perfect anymore but good :)

Yes, thank you for your understanding, Cossor!
Now, i will go to my "half game" and play further, perhaps i should change sides to democratic countries, so i have all pictures there,(but why is senator Mccarthy not removed!? ;-))

You can change the language code in the game but I'm not sure if that censorship applies for all languages within that version. But if you bought a version from another country, you should be able to use the language code to make the game still play in German language. If that's not enough, try the Germanisation mod on the Stony Road forum.

Let's not discuss how to break the law in that jurisdiction, doing so violates board rules. I have explained why it is the way it is. Paradox and thier publishers and distributers do not make laws we just have to comply with them.
If you have a problem with the laws in your jurisdiction then take it up with your government officials who are the ones that make these laws. Really it has nothing to do with Paradox and so discussion of it does not belong on this board.
