I'd think that even cores on all of Iberia except the Granada heartland is a bit strong; I wouldn't give much of the south at all... perhaps Tago and Madrid and Valencia at furthest, with an opportunity at Algarve, Andalusia, Toledo later on if they are already on an upswing (the difference in warscore would prevent them from getting a lot from Cordoba all at once). Colonization would not be a big priority - as Portugal falls into the Irish sphere of influence, and Castile/Leon/Aragon would be in no position to finance outsiders like Columbus, the state would be limited to native Spanish leaders only, I'd think (and maybe not even all of those, since the population would be less due to the smaller territory).

I could actually see it being more of a political game, trying to play three sides against one another (possibly four)... Cordoba, the Irish-sponsored presence or pretenders to Portugal (and perhaps Galicia), the cross-Pyrrenees ambitions of whatever powers there are in the Aquitaine area, and perhaps a rival state or a seperatist movement in Catalonia.

P.S. I like the idea of either Asturias or possibly Navarra being the title used, rather than any of the historically more successful states (Leon, Castile, Aragon or Portugal).

I don't think it is too strong for the reborn Portugal to eventually get cores on all of Iberia.

It initially just gets the old Portugal, but if there is no obvious Christian power in the region and they are successful against Cordoba, then bit by bit they could make justified 'reconquista' claims on the region, no doubt with the support of the Pope.

Let's remember that Portugal is AI controlled only, and it is unlikely to event survive, let alone flourish, except when:

a) in SP the player has Portugal recreated, then reboots to play it.

b) someone playing Eire goes to the trouble of spending their time, troops and ducats to back Portugal and ensure its success on the Peninsula

Given that Aberration is intended for MP, can we really see Portugal doing well often? I don't think so. It's a great little sideline piece, but we need not be too concerned about it becoming a blob.

However, there's a lot to be said for one of Leon, Asturias or Porto getting all those cores eventually, and if successful. It makes no sense that no Christian power gets cores on Iberia.
