I'm running Victoria on a 900MHz, 768mb ram, 32mb-gfx, patched-throu-the-roof Win 98SE
Playing Chile in the GC.

Anyway, when I open the POP window - either to look at immigration, factory-stats or just browsing the POP's in a province - the chance for the game to CTD ..seems to be a bit high  So far, every single CTD I've had (3 so far since I got the game on saturday) has been while looking at the POP's.

The game seems to CTD's when the day changes (ie. on updating the POP stats)

Hope this helps....

Is this in the ledger? The game is paused there so it should not be a problem. Please let me know if this is what you described above.

No, this is in the "Province management view".... at least that is what the manual calls it :D

In other words, where you get the updated view of your POP's as they change.

Can you tell me exactly where you are when this happens?

Province overview shows the POPs at the bottom

Then you have the population view with a list of clickable pops and when you click that you have the detailed population view.

i ask this as I don't really know which view you are in and I can't crash the game in any of those views :(

The short and easy answer is that the 3 CTD's (mind you, that is in 4 days of playing!) has all been when I've been looking at the screens pictured on p. 29 in the manual. I think I was moving the mouse over the POP's to view their stats at the time as well.

Hope this will answer your question.

Somewhat more info

Playing on, I've discovered that the POP-screen in the Province management view behaves a bit oddly and erratic.

This is where it says Country/State/Province/POP in Province btw.

Okay, the POP-stats here in this province (a 1 POP province WITH imigration) JUMPS back and forth between 0 (ZERO) to 2 POP's (with all their stats).

This changes on a day to day basis, AND some days it doesn't change at all.... lol

Anyway, I've tried to take some pics of it using F-11, but whenever the POP's are gone I'm unable to get a pic of it. Pressing Pause doesn't help either as the game then will pause, showing the EMPTY POP-stat. F-11 on the other hand ceases to work as for as many days as the POP's are gone!

This is a bug that doesn't want to be seen..... :D

Hmm, I wonder if this is related to a CTD I had 2 days ago. I was checking out a Norweigan province, when it suddenly spawned a new Clerks POP (from a 100,000 unit or immigration within Norway).

However, about 2 seconds later another new POP arrived, this one was Swedish however but of the exact same 'size' Con and Mil and religion. As it was the first sign I'd ever seen (or not) of intra-realm immigration I clicked on the Swedish POP and that caused a CTD.

My guess is that several POPs were spawned that day, and that somehow one of them was 'sent' or ghosted to the wrong refresh thread/object. Thus, when I tried to click it, the 'Province View' object tried to circle through a 'POPs in Province' list, failed to find it and caused a CTD (assuming the code doesn't check for this correctly).

I've not been able to reproduce it though, but I have now seen intra-realm immigration.. Swedes from Stockholm going to Helsinki..

I also suspect that ALT-TABING alot and 'going-in-game' too fast after returning to the game cause problems.. but that's just a hunch (as all my crashes (2 in 1.00 and 2 in 1.01) come from games where I had ALT-TABBED at some point).
