So I was thinking.. much of the time our gaming group doesn't really have more then about 3-4 hours to play.. and so we don't really have the time to get through a full game of stellaris (with the same people at least). Due to this, wouldn't it be great to have ~10 or so empires that would be scripted to do nothing, but that players (new ones that weren't already part of the game) could hot join into and set up using a chain of events similar to the uplift system? There could be a calculation done to see the progress of empires across the galaxy and then these hot join players could be given xxx resources and such to bring them up to an "evenish" playing field.
Perhaps it could even be worked into the game's lore as a player-controlled exogalactic migration or entry of some sort? Maybe time travellers?
In any case, something like this would allow our gaming group to have some people and not others at different playing sessions, and still let new people to join without having to use a random AI empire with a bunch of random traits, etc.. that they probably don't want to play as anyways.
