I'm trying to create a new late-game building that will provide a workplace for colonists to produce metals/rare metals, but without the need for a deposit, like the Mohole mine.

However, upon trying to mod this in, i just cannot get it to work. Either using the electronics factory template, mohole mine template, or the base extractor templates - I cannot get it to work

Using the electronics factory template, the building constantly demands a resource to be input, stopping it working at all. Even with no_consumption selected, the building still demands some input. Even with the input set to something like fuel, the resource will never be input.

Mohole mine template just won't allow me to assign workers to the building

Extractor template won't allow for a deposit not to be needed.

This is mildly frustrating at best. Anyone have any ideas/solutions, please?

As i remember, there is a water building, that dont use a water deposit or im wrong? Maybe you can look into that building how it's made and use this as a metal-generating building?
Dont know if thats working, it's only an idea that was poping up by the reading of your text. :D

Tried that, and the fungal farm, too!

Oddly, the fungal farm "class" worked.. But it didn't produce anything.

It didn't require any materials, and it was staffed fine and had all the right daily production values.. Just no goods were ever produced. And no stockpiles for them existed either.
I'd managed to get stockpiles to show up, somehow, but even then - nothing produced.

I can tell you exactly how to make it (though I can't tell you how to handle the research part of things). If you need a hand with anything, let me know and I'll shoot my copy of the file across.

Click the arrow next to copy from and scroll down to the 'electronics factory' entry. Click on it to have the editor automatically load all the things you'll need and fill out the details.

Scroll down to the general category and set all the details in the red box to whatever you want/need. AFAIK keeping the same name will replace whatever object you're using as a template with your modded versions but here it won't be an issue.

Scroll down to ResourceProducer1. Click on textbox in the highlighted area and replace 'Electronics' with 'PreciousMetals' (all one word, camel case, no ''s )

Scroll down to construction and modify whatever you want here.

Scroll down to Resource Consumption. Click on the arrow next to the resource type field. Select 'No Consumption'

Click the crosses next to both the Resource Consumption field and the Consumption amount field to reset the values to default. For 'resource consumption', doing this forces the 'No Consumption' string to revert to 'no_consumption'. It's odd to have to do this, but I imagine that it's a combination of efficiency on the developers part and also legacy code that was never replaced with something more in line with current practices. As a developer, I know that these things happen so I'm not too annoyed, though I hope that they fix the other incorrect strings in the selection drop-down soon

P.S: You'll also want to clear out all the modified entries in the 'upgrades' section to avoid odd upgrades appearing as you research things.
