Copied from my own reddit thread:

The game performance after the new update is... let's say... suboptimal. Many of you have already noticed that. So I ran a test myself using the console command "Fast_Forward" up to the year 2300 (1000-star galaxy, 20 AI empires, 3 Fallen Empires, 2 Marauder Empires, all DLCs, no mods). The lag is noticeably worse than it used to be around that time.

However, I also noticed that my gaming laptop heats up significantly less than before. With version 3.14, a part of the laptop would start to warm up noticeably by midgame at the latest. Now, that part stays almost completely cool.

This leads me to conclude that the performance issues in the new version may stem from the game barely utilizing the available hardware resources.

My specs: Intel i9 13900H, NVIDIA GeForce 4070, 32 GB DDR5 @ 5666 MHz, 2 TB Samsung HDD, Win11

Not meant as a formal bug report, but rather as a possible solution.

I remember one of the devs saying that they had turned off multi-threading for the Beta because that made it harder to implement changes. Without having tested it myself, it's entirely possible they forgot to turn it back on

Yeah they mentioned they couldn't really get into the optimizations until they were done integrating the new system and they clearly didn't get that far. If I'm correct they'll be working on the worst of the bugs in single threading before they open the can of worms that is multi threading.
