Not my empire and nowhere near the end:
LUHzlfy.png

Matilda married that unlanded Premyslid bloke as usual, broke out of the HRE with a bunch of Italians and gobbled the lot up, forming Italy before dying and leaving her heirs to conquer norman Apulia and the independent bits of Sardinia, eventually forming Italia. Currently blobbing in muslim Greece, has blurple remnant as tributary state and that county in Tripolitania means they might as well gobble up north Africa.

Willie managed to Conquer and deflect Harald, eventually his heirs formed Britannia.

The Taifa duchy of iirc Seville or Badajoz managed to blob hard and became essentially ToG Umayyads, only without most of their religious problems.

Seljuks hammered blurple hard and only recently the Italians started retaking Greece one duchy at a time. Seriously, Italia is a scary monster. Also, Italia is also the king of Jerusalem (albeit without holding any land there), so look forward to trans-Mediterrainean beige blob.

I started as Karling Vermandois, somehow wormed my way into getting Valois before getting inherited by Savoy-Susa, which I slowly expanded into Burgundy, though my first royal title was Croatia (was a pretender and conquered 2-county Croatia). Sorting out duchies and pacifying unruly counts by making them dukes bumped by levies from around 4k to double that. Also, joined the Assassins because why not.

So I saw the community challenge on the Facebook page, which stated to start as the west African pagan Mahtarid count of the Canarias and to form the HRE.
It was a fun journey, gotta say that much.

Kept playing for a while after that, all in Ironman mode:

Also, I got an immortal ruler who got murdered eventually. He did have an interesting life - started out Shia muslim (the Caliphate uprising ate up the Umayyads and steamrolled southern France, Germany and Mauretania), converted to a catholic, and then switched to messalian just for the heck of it. Also, seduction is kinda fun:

Gotta admit, the game did feel quite ridiculous towards the end. I kept going because of the Protector of the Holy Places achievement, but I guess my next session is going to be more down-to-earth.

To be fair, that's still more Roman than the actual HRE.

.
Interesting concept. I was actually planning to lead an Atlantean Revival with the Canarians once Holy Fury is released.

Who needs empire rank? Behold the King of Kings!

My Saxony to Germania playthrough, United most of Europe under the rule of Wodan, pretty much killed catholicism and created the new world order divided between germanic europe, Tengri Mongolia, Orthodox Byzanthium and Suomenusko Soumi

Well played, well played! glad you liked our challenge!

Not some great empire or anything (yet), but this was a special moment for me. -First time ever having a character w/ a level 40 skill (natural, ofc, since I don't even have M&M or JD). I was out hunting the bear when I got an event that gave me the brawny trait. That put me at 39. Ofc, I just had to switch back to martial focus to get the 40 and take a SS. Maybe not so special to more experienced, veteran players, but for me it was a landmark day.

> slavic russian Rurik

What is this heresy?

Nice. Any chance you could show your map of vassals?
AUuEvyV.jpg

Sure, as you can see the direct vassal map is a total mess. ^^
It's pretty impossible to keep them from fighting each other since I'm running an elective/abolished council power government and I only run duchy level vassals to keep them under vassal limit (count level vassals get insta-transfered under one of the 'High Chiefs'). If I revoke too many titles they'll hate me and they might vote for someone outside of my dynasty. I keep them loving me and I get to controll the electorate choosing the best heir of my dynasty (with highest diplo stat for higher vassal limit). I don't even reallly expand manually anymore, I just let my vassals press their claims and whatnot. I intend to run this into 1444 and export it into EU 4 and watch the game go crazy when there's no christianity on the map. in early game and the dominant world religion is slavic. ^^

What is this heresy?

I just wanted to fit in w/ the locals. "As Viking rulers often adopted the local customs of their conquered lands", paraphrasing what the campaign briefing says. But yeah, he was also a berserker, but I lost that when I converted. -Didn't actually know I was going to lose it, either. So it (martial) could have been even more...

Heresy? How about the wife he starts with... Norse/Germanic daughter of the petty king of beta-Sweden. She was in prison to prevent me from having too many sons (not a king yet -- but several H. chiefdoms) at the time I converted. My first act as a member of the Slavic faith was to sacrifice my (unskilled, & now heathen) wife to Perun. As I did so, I thought: "Man, I've gone so far from my roots. But alas, there's no looking back".

Rurik's grandson (& heir) led the country into Orthodox Christianity, though. So it's all just ancient/mythic history, now. We teach the children that Rurik was a Godly, divinely-inspired man. :D But just between us, he was a straight-up wild murderer on the battlefield.
