I said of course "potential."

Nevertheless, I downloaded HSR 2.1 yesterday at Stonyroad.de and today I had something like 35 different spyware/malware/reg keys and other assorted crap on my computer.

I scan for that stuff DAILY and made no other changes since yesterday. Now I deleted it all before I thought about its sourcing so I do not have the details on what it was. But I am extremely concerned that my download of HSR 2.1 was what led to all the garbage.

I am not saying the good folks over there would knowingly be behind that, or even that it was 100% the source of the problems. But I do feel the need to give the forum a heads-up as to the issue.

you do have a firewall capable of blocking spyware do you? if you do, dayly cleaning should be unnessesary (I havent had almost any spyware for the past half+ year I've had my broadband and norton internet security. my combined firewall/antivirus software has so far blocked 99.99% of the infection attemts). Have you scanned the file in question with antivirus/antispyware program?

Note that 'tracking cookies' are not spyware per se but means of forums and sites to keep track of users, settings etc.

Sorry to burst your bubble but if you're counting on Norton internet security I guarentee you are carrying spyware. Get something like spybot or PC-cillin and you will be surprised at how much stuff Norton simply does not protect you from. Also, you'd be surprised how much faster your system will run without Norton. Nearly all of it's competitors provide better protection while using less of your pc's resources.

Use the sygate personal firewall. Very good as a general purpose firewall. Fully customisable and free as well.
