power grid issues

Howdy! new to this forum and this game and I did some searching and no viable solution was found. My city was just humming along nicely, I have 1 map full and was starting a 2nd map next door. All of a sudden huge swaths of my 1st city are losing power for no reason, despite working fine for a long long time. I'm producing 150 more mw of power than i need, all my power buildings(oil and coal) are full yet as the title says, I'm losing power in a chunk of buildings on the map. Every building is connected to each other so I should have power aplenty. I'm stumped and have stopped building in my 2nd plot of land for now till I get this sorted out. I even connected new power lines just to make sure and they aren't working. Is it possible that my power plants are too far away? My power plants are all to the NE corner of my map and the parts losing power are in the far SW corner

Make sure all of your districts are connected to each other with power lines.

Make sure your power plants are getting fuel. If they run out of coal/oil then you will get brown/black outs.

Check powerlines, lightning will destroy power lines and cut off some or all of your electricity.

Check your budget tab. Make sure it's adjusted to what your city needs. It's easy to accidentally move it. Also check if the budget at night needs adjusting.

You say you are producing more than you need, and some buildings are without power. Pretty much always means that you have power sources on two or more separate grids. You see total power being produced is in excess, but that excess cannot get to where it is needed.

If there were power lines connecting two separate grids, a lightning strike can sever the connection. Or bulldozing a building that was previously part of the electrical path and now it doesn't reach.

If your new area isn't connected to the old area, connect them.

Distance doesn't matter, except in that when power runs low, the most distant buildings lose power first.
