Can someone help me understand how the power grid works? Either it's buggy or there's something going on with it that i cannot understand.

In my current game, my colony has been enduring a cold wave. Currently the reported power demand is 138.9, the power production is 103.2 by the tooltip that comes up at the top of the screen, and yet there continues to be energy stored in my "power accumulators." How is that possible? One can cause the power to start draining out of the batteries by turning off wind turbines and solar panels, but it seemingly has nothing to so with the nominal amounts of power being generated and used.

Do you have a split power grid perhaps?

Do you have a split power grid p
Good question! The game says I have 6 different grids, although I would be hard pressed to identify them. Clearly a grid does not extend through a building, although electricity itself does, I think.
In any case you may have put your finger in why that report fails to accurately capture net electricity usage.

I'm sure you are right there, except that a grid does extend through a building (a dome I assume you mean?).

Back when I had time to play this game, I always made one connected grid only.

If grids do extend through buildings, then one is thrown back on the question of why the game says that I have six. My visual inspection of where the cables go suggest that I ought to have only two.
Oh well -- some mysteries are not meant to be solved.

You could attach here your saved game so the gameplay experts could look into that.

But having two will still cause this problem!

Power going through tunnels shows as a second grid for me, even though bringing up the coloured grid map shows the end of a tunnel in a crater or up a hill as the same colour as the main grid. The other thing that sometimes gives me 'extra' grids is when I've got a Stirling generator miles away from the colony domes powering some remote bit of infrastructure that I've forgotten I placed.

Thanks -- yeah. the tunnel shows up as as second grid for me, too. The display is a little wonky, to be sure.
