If I locked a research tech it should auto-research the moment current research is complete. Or Shift + click should let me queue.

We have updated our Community Code of Conduct. Please read through the new rules for the forum that are an integral part of Paradox Interactive’s User Agreement.
That is not what locked means. Locked means it will reappear the next shuffle.
There is still the possibillity you want to choose another research that appears instead of the locked research.

I would not want this. There are times when I lock a research to keep it in the queue but don't actually get to it for 2-4 cycles as better options come up. This, particularly, tends to be the case with things from the Cultural Tome.
