Forgive me if this has been brought up already, but I just found it on the CK info page. Is this the coolest idea or what? Imagine controlling a nation for close to 800 years...that's just awesome. Even without this feature, CK looks like a kickass game; but with this feature, CK/EU2 just might be the best strategy game ever made.

Unless there are domestic policy sliders in CK I don't know how they would do that.:)

That is the problem yes. If there is some other system like laws or something I hope there will be some kind of coofficient to translate it into EU2 terms.

Impossible, if you want anything more historical than the CIV series.

My concern is that they shouldn't let themselves be limited in their design options just because of the conversion option. It would be sad if they'd leave out a law/decree system, just because domestic policy sliders make a conversion easier. Rather they should work on a powerful conversion tool that manages to translate concepts alien to EU2, but found in CK, into EU2 terms.

If it is a choice between making CK better and making the conversion realistic then I would go for making CK better. Not that I think Paradox will have trouble doing that but if resources were the deciding factor I say put them towards the game.:)

Well, I was being facetious, though I think it would be interesting to try...

Actually, with the bunch of new features and distinct gameplay that CK seems to be packing, I don't think converting will be much of a thing, because they will be very different games. I am sure I'll rather want to play another CK campaign again! (damn, and I still haven't got the chance to put my filthy hands on EU2 yet!!!)

Let me put it this way - would you want to convert a game where you had trashed the opposition in CK and built a monsterously large empire into EU2. What's the point? You'd have such an easy game it wouldn't be fun anymore.

I think this option sounds good at first but in reality will be bogus. What I'd really like is some kind of history log which shows graphically the transfer of ownership of provinces along with the current history log feature of EU2 (anyone remember the original Civ game?) That would be really cool. And great for writing AAR

Yes, I quite agree. There's little reason to convert a big CK empire into EU2 as there's no challenge in doing so. (Or is CK that hard? Which would be a good thing.)

A history log comparable to CIV1 would be cool. I want all kinds of statistics as well. And looking at the map at different stages was really fun and one reason to finish a game.

I agree that it will most likely be a long time before I stop playing CK and convert it to a EU II game (perhaps not until EU III). There have been, however, many requests for continuation of EU up to 1914 and beyond. While it is not something I would want to do often there are a lot of oflks who just want to play (seemingly) forever - or until they conquer the world. Appears to be a good selling point for the game for those interested in EU.:)

However, if the wacked out map doesn't put you off too much, I might concede that hands-off games could be an interesting experiment.

However, I suppose they are changing the map in this one, so how are they going to translate province ownership if the province layout is different?

I don't think there will be any huge empires created in CK. Isn't the point of the game to generate piety and prestige, not land?

BarristerBoy

Hopefully that will be true. But then again EU was not supposed to be a world conquest game either and look how that turned out. From what Greven has said it looks like it will be a lot harder though to take land. :)

The only trouble with a game starting from the Crusader period and running till 1819 is--can you imagine what the world will look like? As you know from EU, the earlier the start date, the crazier the final picture in 1819. I can picture the Duchy of Kiev being the dominant European force with colonies all over America....:)))

I can see the compelling reasons why people would get excited over this feature; but I personally think these sort of games are long enough as they are and I am quite happy to play a standard game of Crusader Kings and then when it's over, start a new one.....
