Last night, when I click on MES icon, it started opened up Excel (or something like it) files not found. And was given the choice of ignore, abort and retry. I tried all but failed. Window termination come up and closed it down since it was abnormal programs. The window is Window XP

This make me nervous since it never happened to me and I do have some AARs to go on with. I can back up all the save files and reinstall everything (if I can find my EU II cd :( ), then 1.07 then Beta and then MES. It would be an pain for me.

But any suggestion would help? :(

Ah! I think I found the answer to my own question.
Mongol Empire Scenario.

Unfortunaltely we do not support user made modifications.
You must contact the authors of that mod for help.

This is a 'problem', caused by MS Office hijacking a lot of file extentions and reinterpreting them as pseudo shortcuts.

Goto your explorer, select tools, file options, and remove all those hijacked file extentions. After you have done that, reboot, and from then on the file extentions should behave more normal.

I had the same problem when I tried to open the monarchs.mam file a couple of weeks ago. Access had hijacked that extention for some type of macro file.

I usually open monarch files by dragging and dropping them on a wordpad icon on my desktop so I don't need to set a file type for every country tag.

Rightclick, open with as well.

IIRC 'open with' doesn't show up in Win9x if the extension is already a registered file type though.

He is on XP though.

That was precisely the problem. Because MS Office had hijacked some file extentions and remapped them as links, you are unable to open the file with anything else that Office finds appropriate, which in my case (Mameluks monarch file) was MS Access.

To further accentuate the problem, simply getting rid of the file extention mapping wasn't enough to sever the link with MS Office. You HAVE to reboot to get rid of it after deleting the file extention mapping.

Hmm, Must have to clear a registry entry.

Thank you for your suggestion, but I have decided to reboot everythings. I always kept back up of all files and very recently save files and screenshots. I have found my EUII disc which delighted me and done it.

However, thank you for trying anyway.

As long as you have a solution. ;)
