I have The Hearts of Iron Anthology and a major problem. I installed Doomsday and Armegaddon with no problem. But to save space on my computer I deleated the folder dealing with the game. I didn't realize my mistake. When I try to unistall Doomsday Install Shield comes up and I click the remove the program but it dosn't work neither does repair. Also on Armegaddon when I click uninstall I get a message titled RUNDDL saying it can't find the specifed module. I have no idea how to fix this and would really love to play these two games again. All help will be extremely appreciated

Thanks

Okay, here you go -
(Campbells Condensed Soup Version)

Plan A: Did you delete the Armageddon folder out of your hard drive?
If yes, place the Armageddon CD in your hard drive and go to uninstall.
The repair option should be available. This should work - I've done it myself a few times.

Plan B: There is no plan B at the moment. :p

Be sure to message back and tell us if it works.

I read that where do I find the registry? I dumb with stuff like this. Thanks

Go to Windows Start menu.

Click "Run".

Write "regedit" (without quotes).

Press "Enter".

This will open a tool that you can use to edit Windows registry.

Well see, that's the thing. The uninstall on the computer didn't work and it couldn't repair itself due to the fact that there wasn't anything on the hard drive. The CD (or DVD, whichever version he may have) can repair the game though with the uninstall feature on disc as long as the game is still in the Windows registry. Even if the actual files are long gone.

Furthermore,

You use the uninstall feature on the CD or DVD and when that loads up with Windows Installer, you can still select the repair option and re-load the game files from the actual disc.

I tried to uninstall on Armagaddon and it never let me click on the uninstall button because of the Runddl error also I tried to uninstall and repair on Doomsday but neither worked. I am trying the add and remove utility now if that dosn't work ill try the regedit ill get back to you guys.

Thanks for all the help I really appreciate it

   Well then. I was wrong. It works on my end, cause I tried it last night to make sure...... that's odd. :(

I must not have duplicated the problem you're having correctly on my end. My bad.

That would be much too easy, now wouldn't it?

I basically sunk I tried deleating the regedit and it didn't work tried adding or subtracting programs didn't work and sadly the files are gone from recycle bin. I guess that buying a new copy of the game wouldn't work either.

Install it on another PC if possible, temporarily. Long enough to make a copy to a flash usb drive or a dvd. Then, simply paste the copy from the flash drive or DVD drive to your own PC's desktop; create a shortcut to hoi2.exe and you should be able to play. This will bypass the registry and install shield and all that stuff that is messed up.

Be wary though. I have done that procedure before and if you have any kind of antivirus - chances are it'll freak out. Back when I had Norton I did that and it worked until Norton scanned my hard drive and screwed it up because it wasn't installed (even though it was in a Doomsday folder) and it deleted enough out of it to mess up the game. If we could see your computer right now, it would make things so much easier. It only goes to show how hard diagnosing a problem from a distance is..... :p By the way, try an Antivirus/malware/spyware/PUPS,etc. program out there called Spybot SD. It's much better than Norton or McAfee. It's free for download on the company's website and the updates are small and easy to download on any connection speed. Cheers.

Good enough, kellister. Just two commments on this issue.

1. Whenever I try a new mod, I usually copy and paste my vanilla install to my desktop, to folder like "newmod". This is quite common practice for allowing play of more than one mod at a time. I do this whenever JSGME doesn't suffice for a mod. Essentially that is what I suggest to panzer192 as a possible way to get playing again, quickly.

2. If you've got an AV that's deleting or quarantining hoi2 files, then it is too agressive; the AV program needs to be told, by setting an exclusion, to leave hoi2 files alone. I use BitDefender AV and firewall and it is very good. It has not false positive ID'd paradox games or exe files as trojans like some of the other AVs have been reported to do in recent threads.

Apologies for getting off topic a bit.

Well stated, though the only reason I included the warning about antivirus software is because I was unaware of our friend panzer's familiarity of the concepts of which we were speaking about. I didn't mean it to sound like a lecture, I just wanted to warn him in case he didn't know that some antiviruses out there may cause harm to large, unknown, non-installed files placed in the hard drive manually by the user. :D
