My apologies, this thread should have been started here, instead of the Bug Board.

I recently purchased the Strategy sixpack, loaded up EU2-Asia, but I keep running into the following after several game years:

Error 1000- Faulting application eu2asia.exe, version 1.0.0.1, faulting module eu2asia.exe, version 1.0.0.1, fault address 0x001bbf73.

then,

Error 1001- Fault bucket 177155390.

Can you tell me what this may mean, or should I try to get a dump file, as well? I've tried to get the dump file several times, but no dice so far. Perhaps you may be able to tell me how I may get this. [addtl info: it only happens when I access the CoT window, irregardless of nation or scenario]

Another problem is "Unknown String" messages showing up throughout the History logs, as well as strange symbols being subbed, instead of "-" signs. Any ideas?

I may try to post these on Typhoon Games' website, too.

Really if you can that would be ideal since I don't even have the game. :)

If it does not work out for you on Typhoon, come back here and I will see what I can do by asking upstairs.

Typhoon Support's reply to me was "Dear Customer, Thank you for purchasing EU2 - Asia.

We've investigated the problem. However, we were unable to identify the cause. Due to your problem's technical nature, we advise for you to contact the developer's support. For your information, the website is...", at which point they had Paradox's website & forum listed. So, is there anything y'all can do, in this situation?
The scenarios they had did look worthwhile, and the perspective from a historical POV was interesting to me, to say the least.

What language files do you have installed? Look under international settings.

Sorry, but those messages don't look ike anything we've ever seen on straight EU2. I guess you should follow Castellon's standard advice as a start:

1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
4) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-3.

I have seen it, usually associated with the languge files, thus my question. :)

Well, you were right about the language files; I loaded them up from the MS Word CD, and that seems to have solved the weird symbols problem. Unfortunately, the blowups that occur when I access the CoT window is still around, when the same messages as above and with the same regularity. Would patching the program I have overlayed the Asian Chapters on (original EU2 v. 1.04) with the Asian version 1.06 (or even the US version, for that matter) do the trick? I've tried to find this in cyberspace, but the closest I can get is a Asian v. 1.07, which causes database errors up the kazoo; the EU2 v. 1.08-patched version does the same.

Not really sure what you are talking about in the last part.

You have EU:AC which is the equivelent of EU2 1.04?

And you want to know if you can apply a regular EU2 patch or Asian version patch.

Is that correct?

My apologies for a lack of clarity; here's what I meant:

EU:AC, according to another forum somewhere around here, is v. 1.06-based. Whenever I tried to run this with the 1.08 patch, I got database errors. So, I tried reinstalling the original CD version, which was 1.04, and that seemed to be okay and more or less working, with the exceptions of the symbols & the blowoffs with the CoT screen. I then tried to find the 1.06 patches, and only could find the 1.07 both for the North American & Asian versions. In trying to use those, I was getting the database error messages again.

So the only thing I think is left for me to try at this point is the 1.06 version. Unless the Paradox G-d has a plan... :)

Again you say that EU:AC is 1.06, then you say when you install from CD it is version 1.04.

EU:AC is ostensibly based on 1.06, as I've seen in another thread on this website and have seen in the opening menu (1.06b exactly). However, since I don't have EU2 V. 1.06, I've tried the following:

EU:AC by itself - Stodgy graphics, no music or multi-player mode, blows up whenever I go into the CoT/Trade screen with my mouse.

EU:AC installed into/over EU2 V. 1.04 thru Repair mode - slight improvement in graphics, w/music, no multi-player mode, blows up whenever I go into the CoT/Trade screen with my mouse.

EU:AC installed into/over EU2 V. 1.08 thru Repair mode - best graphics and look, music, multi-player mode, blows up whenever I go into the CoT/Trade screen with my mouse.

The blowups, BTW, besides being irrespective of setup and/or install, are also irregardless of what nation or scenario selected.

Okay obviously EU:AC is not supported with a patch for EU2.
This is what I was trying to understand. that would be like patching EU1 with an EU2 patch.

So with the Vanilla patch, the only trouble is still the CoT screen. Is this the CoT screen in the ledger or when you click on a CoT. And is it any CoT? Does putting Auto merchants on give you a admittedly bad work around or does it cause a crash as well?

The prob comes up when accessing the CoT screen in the side window (with the shields indicating who's trading there). It is any CoT, not just the default ones a nation starts in. 'Auto Merchants' can be selected, and seems to work, but for my style of play (unfortunately, I'm one of those guys who selects Venice or Malacca trying to set up a trading empire, not a conqueror type unless I'm playing Medieval: Total War), it's not so good. Personal predilection, I suppose...

Okay I assume you have already followed My standard advice, that Andrew supplied earlier.

Frankly since I have never played this game I can't even tell you if this is a bug or not. But let's try and elimininate hardware troubles just in case. Let's take a deeper look to make sure it is nothing obvious.

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

If I may step in for a quick suggestion. While translating the text.csv into german I also encountered a CTD while hoovering over the shields in the COTs. Here's the difference between 1.05 and 1.08:
Code:
1.05: COTIW_DRO;%d$: Total trade in this CoT\n%d/20: %s's share of that trade\nx0.%d: %s's Trade Level\n= %.1f$ yearly trade income for %s from this CoT;;;;;;;;;;1924
1.08: COTIW_DRO;%d$: Total trade in this CoT\n%d/20: %s's share of that trade\nx[color=red]%.2f[/color]: %s's Trade Level\n= %.1f$ yearly trade income for %s from this CoT;;;;;;;;;;1924
I would suggest to make a copy of your text.csv, open it in the Notepad/Editor, search for that line, change the colored part, save it (NOTE: it has to be named text.csv - not text.csv.txt) and try it out. If it doesn't work, you still have the backup.

EDIT: It seems to be the same problem as mentioned [thread=103318]here[/THREAD].

Sorry, Castellon, I'm not ignoring you, yesterday I wasn't able to get on the Paradox website all evening (was there something wrong here, or was it my net-settings?); I'll do as you suggested this evening, and post the results ASAP.

If you need to, you can close this thread, and if I need to address any future issues like this I'll open a new thread. Thanks for your patience, this is what keeps me buying Paradox games: the support!

Djambo, thank you for helping with this! A Shaynem Danke!
