I have installed ck2 for some months now. I wanted to play today after about a week, but the game won t start. In steam the cd key window appears, it says it s running for about 2 seconds and afterwards it stops. When i try to start the game from the ck2.exe it says the 0xc000007b file isn t running properly. I haven t changed anything in my computer, to be honest i haven t used it, so i cannot understand what happened and i can not play anymore. Other games seam to play normal. Please help. I thank you in advance

What antivirus app do you have? Add ck2game.exe to its exceptions list/whitelist.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK2 or Documents CK2 locations, before installing again.

Also if you have installed a gaming VPN app called Evolve, or the MSI Gaming App, disable it as it clashes with this game.

IF that doesn't help, DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

Update that nVidia driver:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

If that doesn't help, in Windows Explorer click on Documents in the left column. Is there a folder Paradox Interactive there? If so there should be a folder for this game in it, and settings.txt and system.log are there.

If there is not a folder for this game, then it has been deleted since you last ran the game. The game ought to recreate it, if it has noth that can only be one of two thigs: an antivurus app getting in the way of creating it, or the Windows User folder has been moved and the game cannot find it.

What antivirus app do you use? Add ck2game.exe to its exceptions list/Whitelist.

One more possibility that can cause the failure to create the Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK2/ folder, is if the Documents folder has previously been moved so the game can't find it. Is that possible?

Use Notepad to make a new text file called userdir.txt in the Steam CK2 folder where ck2game.exe is. In that file place a single dot, save and exit. This tells the game to write the user files right there instead of under Documents. If that works and the game now runs, you can replace that dot with any file path you like.

Hallo and thanks for your help.

Unfortunately there is no Paradox interactive folder in the windows explorer so there aren t the 2 files there (settings.txt and system.log)

My antivirus is the ESET Smart Security Version 9.0.429.1, which i have switched off while i m trying to find a solution, but i also have put the ck2.exe on the exceptionlist.

I also made a text file in the steam folder where ck2.exe is. I placed only a dot (.) inside, but it didn t change anything.

It s is very unlikely that any folders have been moved, at least not by me.

Still i hope we can find a solution, and thank you for your help till now.

Another thing that i find very curious, is that steam shows as ``last played`` date the date of today. It s like the game is starting and crashes immediately. I also said before it says game running for about 2 secs and then, while showing synching, it crashes

There should be no ck2.exe , the game is ck2game.exe . Is that what you meant?

Exit the Steam app completely and run ck2game.exe by itself. It will still fail, but is there any new error or message when that happens?

I'm not very familiar with ESET but with some AV apps like Comodo, users have had to uninstall the AV app, reboot, install and run the game successfully, and only then install the AV app - they tend to trust apps they find already there when they are installed.

Yeah it ck2game.exe what i meat. thing is i played the game normaly till about 2 weeks ago and suddendly it stopped working. i also tried to uninstall the antivirus but it s not possible as i don t have the right to. i tried executing the ck2game.exe and it said that i missed the msvcr100.dll file so i downloaded it and now it tells me again the 0xc000007b file is missing.

I hope you downloaded it from Microsoft, because any other source may be infected.

We also provide safe installers for those DLLs:

Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Crusader Kings II\ _CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\ and run dxsetup.exe
Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Crusader Kings II\ _CommonRedist\vcredist\2010\ and run vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe

I am sorry then ! There's obviously a problem in Windows with these VC++ updates. You could try this: delete this list of files (about 50 in total)

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcp100.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcr100.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcr100_clr0400.dll *
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\xinput1_3.dll
C:\Windows\System32\mfc100.dll
C:\Windows\System32\mfc100u.dll
C:\Windows\System32\msvcp100.dll
C:\Windows\System32\msvcr100.dll
C:\Windows\System32\msvcr100_clr0400.dll *
C:\Windows\System32\xinput1_3.dll

* you may need to change user permissions on these two files before you can delete them. If they won't delete, don't worry about them

PLUS all files that fit the pattern d3dx9_??.dll in both those folders; usually about 20 in each. Then re-run those three .exe files from my post #11 above, which will replace them all with known good ones.

If that doesn't work, you may need Windows support help with this.

Hi again. I think it becomming too risky for me in order to all of that on my know. I might ask for some professional help. Can i ask, if you have any idea what how this problem occured? I mean, the game was running perfectly and suddendly it didn t work anymore. it s verystrange as i m using this computer pretty much only for gaming and i didnt change anything.

Thanks a lot for all the help you ve given me until now and i hope i ll be able to play again in the near future! :)

Got the same issue here, the game starts and then halfway through the loading crashes. This is on a less than 4months old clean Windows install, with CK2 bein cleanly installed also. No problems with EU4, Stellaris, or any other game, just CK2.
Did you post in this thread (rather than starting your own) because it describes your problem exactly? 0xc000007b error, for instance?

Hallo there. Have you found a solution to the problem, or did anyone have a similar problem, cause i m unable to play the game for some weeks now and it s a bit disturbing... Thanks a lot in advance. (CKII seems to be the only program that i have that won t work!)

Is it still the case that there is no documents/paradox/ck2/ folder or contents for it?

You definitely don't have a gaming VPN app called Evolve, or the MSI Gaming App installed?

You tried the userdir.txt file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Crusader Kings II\ , is that right? Can we see that file please?

If none of that bears fruit this pretty much has to be ESET getting in the way.

Waht i can not understand is how can eset suddendly be the problem, since the game was running without any problems till about a month ago? Still i m gonna try your advice and come back to zou. Thanks again for the help
