Good day, I'm wondering if anybody has had this experience. Last eve I finished my GC on the 1.02 patch and tried to upgrade to 1.03. Then, EU2 wouldn't start. It loads, I can choose my scenario, change my nation, but as soon as I hit 'start', EU2 closes, end of story! Needless to say, this has left me sad. Never to be thwarted though, its back to 1.02 for me... but it would be nice. Any tips? I adjusted my display settings up down and all over while troubleshooting... no dice.

weird... did you have the EEP installed? or any other modifications?

check the "Running problems" thread on top of this forum; there is a link to "Uninstall" (first item), it will give you instructions on how to completely uninstall EU2. Do so, and reinstall the game. everything should work fine.

I've experienced a similar problem.
When I run EU2 of 1.03 or 1.04 patch on Windows2000,
it crashes as soon as I click START button
before the scenario loading slider appears.
It's all right with 1.02 or Windows98 on the same hardware,
Pentium4/1.7G + P4B-MX + Radeon8500.
I suspect DirectX 8.1 so I'll retry with 8a.

please tell me if it worked.

It was not DirectX but Input Locale.
Apparently Japanese Input Locale of my Windows2000 caused trouble.
Switching it to US made 1.03/1.04 run without problem.

I'm glad for you but that isn't the problem for the first user since he is from the US :(

Sorry folks, I haven't had a chance to try some of the troubleshooting suggestions posted so far. Had to finish my game I started in 1.02 first, now that thats done... troubleshooting time. I've printed the tips, I'll write again tonght or tomorrow with my success or lack there of.

Yep, no Japanese input locales for me!

Working!

I think it was the 'avi' folder. I am using Win2k, so I followed the trouble shooting instructions as far as I could (not all the same). After the part about renaming the 'avi' folder to 'avi_old' or some such, not only does the game load faster (gee, skipping the intro avi's, what do you know!) but it works like a charm with 1.04. Many thanks.

thanks for the feedback :)

I will be updating the instructions soon for XP/2000
