So, might I join the ranks of the poor guys which are unable to set their router properly.

I got myself a new internet connection and have a new router now, a Sagem Livebox Fast 3202.

The thing, they dare to call a router, is apparently unable to forward all the ports required for eu2 (or any directX 7 game). I can forward some, but not 101 separate ports.

www.portforward.com says about it:
The Sagem Livebox Fast 3202 will not allow you to forward enough ports, to run DirectX 7. You should try using the DMZ portion of this router if it is available.

So, setting my IP to DMZ with my router seems to be my only hope in order to join a game. But I can't see an option to do this with the router configuration. Google doesn't help me. portforward.com hints that it might not be available at all.
The helpdesk of my provider doesn't respond (or at least hasn't answered any of my three mails about this till now. They might come to do it later though).

Now, does anyone of you guys have any idea to help me with this mess?

Either

a) Buy a new router

*or*

b) Connect directly to the net (not through the router) when playing EU2 MP (assuming you have the hardware to do it).

I was already afraid it would be one of those options.

Option b is a no-no, since it's a modem-router, required to make my DSL connection with the net.

I see if a is an option, but I'll first wait if the helpdesk gives me a clue. Till then, I am afraid I can't play EU2 mp for a while.

Actually, only 2 ;)

Ports 47624 and 2300

Yes, when you have a firewall you need to open a lot more ports, but for a NAT enabled router you only need to forward the aforementioned two ports.

That sounds like good news!

I'll try it out tonight.

The difference between opening ports and forwarding ports was something I discovered a few days ago myself too. It's just that portforward.com told me that I needed to forward all those ports for DirectX 7 games.

Jarkko, it's probably a good idea to edit your tutorial to describe these differences.

If it still doesn't work FAL, make some screenshots of your router menus. I'll take a look at them (and I'm sure others will also). Together, I'm sure we can fix this.

I'll do that if you can confirm it worked :)

So, it worked? :)

No clue yet. My provider has upgraded the software of the modem/router at distance and it gives memory overflow problems now when you try to configure it :D

But someone else with a NAT router could of course try it out too, with forwarding only the two mentioned ports.

I've tried it, and it worked :) So you should be fine. Do make sure your comp is in the DMZ still though. Won't work without that.

So, to sum it up, you need to have ports 47624 and 2300-2400 open with your firewall. If your firewall can't open a range of ports, you need to set your IP as DMZ or disable your firewall.

You need to forward 47624 and 2300 if you have a NAT enabled router. It might be necessary to set your IP to static for this.

Is the above correct? Seems to be crucial information for everyone with a NAT enabled router which is unable to forward a range of ports (like mine).

As far as I can tell, this is correct. At least for me and my router.

You mean opened those ports with the firewall, right?

No. I mean forward.

I can only tell you what I did to get it to work through a NAT. I forwarded all of them.

Your IP doesn't need to be static. The router only needs to know what the outside port will be, AFAIK.

Status report:

I can at least host now (thanks hog!), after I provided people my correct IP adress with http://www.whatismyip.com/. Before that I let my victims join my gateway adress :D, so those early tests didn't work. Sorry Rob and Mulli ;)

Anyway, I am now looking for someone which can host for me, in order to test if I can join them.

Ok I can join games again! Phew!

And I now can confirm that forwarding only port 47624 and 2300, while opening 2300-2400 and 47624 with the firewall does work, for a NAT-enabled router.

Take notice Jarkko! ;)

FAL, bear in mind you will need additional ports for vnet:
33943-34000
