Problem with patching 1.3a "HOI not installed"

Can someone help me with installing patch 1.3a? When I run it, it tells me"the game isn't installed. This is actually correct, I installed in on my previous windows 32-bit OS (no longer there). I was happilly playing it on my new installation, until I decided to put the 1.3b files there. Then I tried installing 1.3a...Now the game no longer runs of course.. Does anyone have the files from 1.3a seperately? Or know how to force the patch to install? I really don't want to reinstall the game and copy the old stuff over it and all...

Uninstall, (useing the manual uninstall instructions in the sticky thread if necessay.)
Then do a fresh install from CD then patch 1.3a then apply 1.3b

Euhh, yes, of course, if that is the only option. And If I manage to find the cd somewhere... Makes me wonder: is the unneccesary check made by the patch whether there is MSI uninstall information meant as a "copy protection"? I mean: isn't it so the patch just copies new versions of files over the old ones i.e. couldn't there be a patch version as .zip file, to be cpoied over the original files (as is the 1.3bAI update .rar)?
