are known to have any effect on that problem - they address the whole-of-PC freeze issue.


Let me have another look at all your files:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.
IF dxdiag.txt fails to attach here, rename it to dxdiag.log , or zip it up.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/pdx_settings.json .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/crashes/ folder, attach here the latest (only!) exceptions.txt


AND Please install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here please.

Are we defining a game freeze as any freeze that doesn't require a hard reboot, or just freezing that doesn't impact anything other than the game itself?

When i play my and set it to speed 5 it is like my game i somethime frozen.. and sometimes when running speed 5 to long my whole game is frozen.

I'm using the above description for this thread, on my judgement that it is a different issue to the hardware hang we are seeing elsewhere.

lets not call it a freeze what i am seing on mu gtx 4090 / 9800x3d fully driver updated is:
on speed 4-5 randomly i can get a mounth tick of game time and my computer wont do anything can´t alt+tab can´t ctrl alt delete NOTHING


i have tried to w8... 5-10 minuttes nothing happends. i have to hit the power button for a reboot. I played atilla total war the other day and read my CPU cores is not getting used correcly so i have to tell via a script that i have more cores.. Do you think i could be something like that ? a hick up in the CPU/core ingame ?

So it does affect your entire computer, not just the game itself?

My whole computer is stuck i cant do anything.
my sceen is locked. cant do anything via keyboard. have to power reset on computer in order to reset/reboot.

He's the one who made this thread. He said the game froze (but meant entire PC as well) after he got his X3D CPU. The exact same thing happened to me, the game ran just fine on my 10900k until I got a 9800X3D.. both running W11 24H2. I don't really know what more evidence we need for this to be brought to the attention of the developers.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what you mean by "a different issue", but my point remains. I'll add he made this post in January and still can't play the game.

Of course, just trying to make it as transparent as possible for everyone. There's just no way that there isn't a fundamental issue between Victoria 3 and X3D CPUs, regardless of other Windows issues on top of it.

so reinstalled it all! removed all folders appdata and shit! one thing i also did was change so admintrator rights when i boot the laucher up... something changes in a good way

That's good, but I did have one full playthrough with a single freeze after updating my chipset drivers, then it came right back on the next playthrough. So make sure you give it a good try before you reach a conclusion too early like I did... but it sounds like you know what you're doing. Good luck!

well i had my hopes up back... but i am back.. have to restart the whole pc when i play when the random total freeze happends and just stuck until i forceshotdown the computer sad days.. hope amd and microsoft fixes this soon!

Well, Microsoft has things to fix to be sure, but this being specific to AMD processors isn't AMD's fault, it's Victoria 3's engine that fails to work properly with them. So long the devs remain unaware of this, it's not going to be fixed, unfortunately.

I have no idea i just know my intel had not so many issues man amd runs great when things work but when there is a glitch gg ! well heard windows updated something ! i will check again

Good luck, the next major Windows update will be later this year I believe.. wouldn't be too hopeful for it to be fixed by then, especially since it's not a promise that the 25H2 update will fix it anyway. I still maintain that it's a Paradox issue regarding AMD regardless, but it doesn't seem to be a priority for them.

Great news! The new beta branch fixes the issue. It was an AMD issue all along, surprise surprise. Just go and select the opt-in beta 1.9.6 and the game works. I'm still using Vulkan, no other "workarounds."
