It happens to me quite often that i cannot join MP game because the screen "waiting for other players" (the one where you can see everyones status: connecting/ok) is not dissapearing. I am in the game, i can write to other players, i can also click start a game - i can do all the things except that screen remains "waiting fo toher players". The other players are already in game and have no such problems. Please help, any ideas/sugestions?

EDIT. i use windows 98SE - could it be the reason?

All MP related issues are posted in the MP forum.

This really bugs me, the way Castellon automatically moves any technical MP problem to the MP forum. What, MP issues don't get technical support? Only SP gets technical support? MP players are on our own? Why aren't MP issues considered technical support issues? It bugs me.

If we have an MP technical issue, the key is not to mention MP in the message. Then perhaps the issue might get technical support.

Orthank, was this what was happening when you kept failing to connect with us on Sunday? Does this problem happen always now? Only with 1.1 or with 1.2 too? I'm not familiar with your problem but discussing the circumstances in which it arises may help.

Also, I don't really understand what the screen looks like when you get into this state. Do you just have the message "waiting for other players" overlaid on top of everything else that you do? I think I've had that myself once and it didn't seem to cause much trouble and I suppose it went away eventually. I guess that it's some kind of sync error.

Andrew, this is exactly what was happening to me last sunday in our game. Screen is a regular one we all have it, after scenario is red you got screen "Waiting for other players" and you can see player names and their status:

Warden ... ok
Orthank ... connecting :)

once all players are ok u are getting into the game (normal screen map etc.) but sometimes i cannot. I was wondering if perhaps this may be due to the fact that i am using Win98SE and all other XP. In the second game played sunday afternoon i couldn't join only once per 6 reloads. This is annoying for other players and i want to do something about that.

Castellon, thanks for moving thread to the proper forum, i was just worrying that this may be a problem with supporting Win98SE that is why i posted it in tech support.

I was hosting a game with Orthanks in, all players went from 'connecting' till 'ok' but Orthanks was last or second to get status 'ok'.

Then first grey background windows shift to game and map view for rest of players, but no map was shown for u Orthanks, right?

All players wrote 'in' or 'here' but the last overlay text saying 'waiting for other players' in game was visible for rest of us when Orthanks had this problem. He also complained one rehost he could read but not hear others chat.

Do u have any graphical problems when u play SP?

Both communication and graphics in game is handled by DirectX components, what version are u using? ( u can run dxdiag.exe to get versions). I think Castelon would love that :)

Another source of delay or error is router and firewall. At least i noticed this once when i was hosting in orginal HoI and forgot to set server rights to a DirectX server component in my firewall as host. Many forget this and only open up ports for the HoI2 application and forget DirectX.

I have a quest myselfes.. what are the coulered dots u se on top of flags representing? Does HoI measure the avg time for packages to travel to and from client-host meanwhile we chat in lobby? What colour is ok then? Should one ban someone with yellow instead of green ones :(
Once i noticed it say 'LAG' on top of every body i dont remember if i was host but anyhow it turned out no lag problem that session inpite of prev warning.

I think its a good idea about the dots over players flag.. but as host one would like to know when to hit start button and when to wait. Since i don't.. i havent really paid much attention to them.

I'm using W98 SE too, and never has happened to me, so system operative no... i wonder about what causes that.. is strange and annoying
