Problems Loading

My friend is having trouble with his 1.06 NA version. Lately every time he starts up the game it freezes during the opening videos. It wont let him progress to the game itself

He's reinstalled several times.
Doesn't have directx9.
Im not sure his computer specs, but its fairly new.
Cable Modem.


Any suggestions, ideas, etc. greatly appreciated!

Very likely the Binkplayer is at fault. Have him rename the avi folder to avi_old which disables the flash screens at the start but should send him directly into screen where the graphics, etc. are initialised.

If that doesn't work then I'd suggest you encourage him to join on here and then post complete system specs for me to have a look at (as per the "Read First" sticky at the top of the forum).

Delete the binks. Game starts whining about missing file, but then press enter a few times, and the game should be loading. Saves you from seeing 'this game is dedicated to...' too.

...err...far easier to simply rename/delete the ...\avi\ folder and skip them all together...as long as binkplayer.exe is not found in the ...\avi\ folder it will skip that process on boot without the "complaints". Try it...

It certainly saves you from having those error messages pop up all the time. Also it prevents the Binkplayer from ever loading so this eliminates the possibility that it will leave some of itself behind to mess things up later.
