Hello,

I am a bit desperated cause I experienced some issues while trying to import my created Models from Blender to Cities.Skylines. I tried a lot of times with different Objects now. Somtimes my own buildings and sometimes only simple testobjects.

I wonder, that sometimes it works fine but often its does not !

What I am doing to export from Blender and import to C:S is the following:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blender Settings:

Set to metric: Scene - Metric
Scale Object: Transform - Dimensions - 8mx16mx12m (It says 8m in Blender is one square in C:S)

My buildings are all made of only one object.
I mark all Edges of the Object that have contact with the ground
shift + s - curser to selected

Set Origin - Origin to 3D Curser
strg + a - Rotation & Scale - Location (activate)

File - Export - FBX(.fbx)

Export Options:

Scale: 100.00
Forward: -Z Forwad
Up: Y-UP

Selected Objects (activated)
Apply Transformation (activated)

- EXPORT FBX

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In windows explorer:

copy:
ObjectA.fbx + ObjectA_d.fbx
to
...AppData/Local/Colossal Orders/Cities_Skylines/Addons/Import

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inside Cities Skylines:

Tools - Asset Editor / New - Temperated - Building - select low residenteal - L1 2x2 Detached01

Now all imported buildings are listed but most time if I click on them I see nothing
in the preview window and cant continue... Only sometimes its works suddently but
I could not figure out whats the reason ehy or why not yet :(

I added some screens to show you what I mean...

This one did not work (No preview -> cant continue)

Here it worked one time (but unfinished without texture)

I hope you can help me cause I really like to create some buildings for C:S

Greets !
Rob

Ok, thank you the Export works again with Tangent Space activated... but its still not showing up in ingame Editor :(
What also could be the Problem ??

I have reinstalled Blender now...

Do I have to set any options in settings or install any Addons before I can model for Cities:Skylines ??

These are the settings I use - I don't change anything in animation, but included it anyways. Make sure you have the model and ONLY the model selected when exporting. If you can upload the blender file somewhere I can try and have a look. Most likely it's a little setting somewhere or selection that's the issue. It took me a little while to get everything right. :)

Hmm the settings are almost the same like the one I use... I deactivated "Add Leaf Bones" at Armatures and didnt do scale 100 (like someone told in a youtube tutorial) and now it worked :) I will test it with some more Objects... Maybe that was the Issue !!! Thank you for the first ! :)

EDIT: Ok some small Issues... The texture seems not to work correctly

And I cant add building to a style... (Want to create a style with my building only to see it grow)

Check your resolution for your textures - you can see working resolutions here. Also make sure there aren't any transparent areas in the texture - the game doesn't handle that very well. Also make sure there isn't some color variations added to your building in the asset editor. Just set all the 4 color options to pure white and you'll be good.

Yeah, styles aren't very flexible - assets have to be on the workshop to be put in a style. I use the Building Themes mod instead - I have a theme named "Test" in there which I add buildings I want to test to. If it's level 1 there's a good chance you'll see it pop up even without styles or themes. You can always just zone little squares the size of your building (if it's 2x2 you fill in 2x2 areas with 1 or 2 squares between them) That way you increase chances of it spawning. :)

And another problem appeared :(

How do I set the building correctly that it fit into the 2 squares ? Its a bit displaced

I tried Rotation, Scale, Lokation and the set origin in Blender several times but it never fits perfectly :(

Here's a good overview of how illumination textures work: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=524027632
And some tips and mistakes to aviod: http://community.simtropolis.com/fo...-common-nightlight-mistakes-you-should-avoid/

To get your building centered you want to set the origin point in Blender. Go into edit mode, select the 4 buttom corner points, hit shift + s and choose "cursor to selected". Then go into object mode and hit shift + ctrl + alt + c and choose "Origin to 3D cursor". Then export again and load it up in the game. :)

Ok cool, I will try it and read the text :) THANK YOU AGAIN

And just the next question :D

If I build row houses... how do I mark a house as an Edge-house ?

And what scale do you use in Blender ? I heard that 8m in Blender is one square in C:S and I orientated myself on that scale but of course then some buildings do not fit and have to big
doors/windows etc. so that Trucks for example looking to small next to it...

Do you know how many metres in Blender a are how many metres in Cities:Skylines ?

So that a door of 2x1m in real life would be XxXm in Blender to fit in C:S ???

Exactly ! Corner-house. Couldn't find the righ word :p So how do I "mark" it as an Corner-house so the game will only play it at street corners ?

Last building I set up 16m in Blender so should be 2 squares in C:S but in the end it was smaller than one ? oO Dont know what went wrong

So how do I mark it as a corner house ? :)

And I have another Problem in Blender. On my actual model (which is very huge and complex) I got a Problem with lots of faces showing the normal insides instead of the outsides and its very complicating to mark and switch them all. Is there a way to just mark the whole model and make ALL faces show the outside normal ? :/
