I recieved my preordered copy today (by mail). And the installation went as they usually do, without a problem, but when I fired up my game and started a scenario it CTD  . I reinstalled and the same happend again. I applied the patch, nope that didnt do it. After several attempts an idea hit me: I forced it to win98, and behold it now works as supposed to :) . Perhaps my comp was/still is fubar, perhaps not. My specs: Win Xp pro, P4 3.06GHz, 1Gb ram, ATi 9700 Pro w latest drivers, lots of free HD space. I hope that I am the only one with this problem if not, I hope this post will help others.

I use a laptop with XP Home Edition since the beginning of the beta (with crapier spec than yours), and never had any problem...

Maybe something to do with your graphical card ?

Would that be the bink player annoying us again ?

Dont think so, because the intro played fine

I've seen this for HoI and Vicky a couple of times and the thing in common is ATI Radeon cards. Not saying that it's the problem but a theory..

Could be Bink vs. ATI Radeon (although removing avi files didn't help).

/F

The "AVI" problem has nothing to do wih the opening movies playing or not. ;)

Oh and Install issues especially hardware ones, should go in the support forum. ;)

... Cat
I switched to a laptop with XP Home after the gold version and never had a problem during the beta. My ex-machine was on ME. And, my laptop has ATI Radeon 9200 or something...

Well it was my 1:st post.... And I have installed Vic, Hoi & EU2 without a problem and they also have bink as well (not a single CTD on those games), so this could very well be software related. Correct me if I'm wrong but bink is a video player, right? Why then does my game ctd when loading a scenario and not during startup (when the intro plays) is bink leaving shit in my comps memory? Dont think so. I found a solution that works, later on I will do an installation on a diffrent machine.

In any event, you will get the best attention to resolve your problem in the tech forum. Yes, there may be a bug, but atm, you have problems (or a work around) that are not about the game, per se, but about getting the game to run.

Sorry, I am not intending to be beaurocratic, and such, but trying to best resolve your issue. And, Castellon is the best, at this. :) So, work with him...

Well, I just had an idea were the translation/transfer from playing the Bink movie to loading the actual game somehow is the problem. Since I've seen the description you gave before..

Castellon should know though, he's the Pdox expert :)

Sorry I missed this being moved over here since it was well down the list.

The answer is I am sorry but you are dead wrong!
The whole Bink "issue" is about "leaving shit" in your computer. ;)
You see it can fail to unload itself from memory and cause all kinds of problems.
I have kind of been at this for a while so you will find I generally know what I am talking about. ;)

Have you resolved this issue 7thhorseman ?

nah, I have fiddled around a bit with the files and the settings in win XP and now I cant even reproduce the problem when all things is restored (to what it was before I started fiddeling). Perhaps it's my win registry that's become corrupted. For now I blame my problems on Billy G (afterall he is antichrist incarnated or so I've heard) and my comp will get a reinstall of XP in a week or so, just have to find the energy... ;) I thought my problems stemmed from an early copy of the game (preordered it at pdox), now I not so sure anymore. And Castellon, thanks for your help, I mean it :)

Okay, let me know how it works out with the fresh win install.

It's done! Now it starts up nicely like my other pdox games, its sad but I guess one still need those fresh installations of windows, now and then. I wiped my OS-disk, did the reinstall of XP, downloaded all the latest drivers/patches and set the virtual ram to a fixed size. I also have to say that the stability of the game have improved. I guess CK and/or bink is a bit more sensitive to a faulty system than Hoi and Vic where, because I reinstalled them without a hitch before I did my final solution on win XP.

Great news!
