Okay, i've been having an issue with multiplayer in HOI2. I can't host on my DSL modem, and this seems to be the situation with my other games as well, though i've never had a joining problem with other games, but i haven't been able to check with HOI2 because the only person i know who plays the game has a dial up modem, and the game flat out won't let him host. I have a software firewall that i disable totally whenever i play online, but even then--obviously--it doesn't work. I'm getting really frustrated.

Could someone tell me about this whole IP play thing? My given IP (not WAN IP, whatever that is) doesn't work whenever i have a friend try to join my games, and I don't even know if my friend can connect since he's on dial up, so can someone PLEASE give me some advice????

Do you use a router? If yes you need to open some extra ports for hosting. :) There is a list of ports somewhere in the stickies.

If a router is the thing sitting on top of my tower processing information going in and out of the internet and my computer, then yes i have a router. I have been perusing throught the stickies and other help things, but none seem to relate to my modems setup even when i get into its settings thing.

Could you--or someone else--please put me through this step by step so i can solve this pickle and start having fun?

Well I don't use a router myself. Maybe you could pm Colonel Warden, he seems to have some idea on what to do.
