Well, this is a problem I've been having with both EUII and Crusader Kings, but it's been bugging me more in CK for some reason. The music, while playing, will sometimes make fuzzy crackling noises, sometimes quickly cutting on and off. Other times, maybe most of the time, there isn't a crackling, but a severe distortion of the sound. It's a distortion that is difficult to describe, but very annoying. This didn't happen when I first started playing (I just bought CK.), but after a few hours, this crackling and distortion started, just like in EUII.

I've run the sound test through dxdiag, and it didn't find any problems. I tried switching to 16 bit color, renaming the AVI folder to AVI_back, and closing down all non-essential processes on my system, but this problem still persists.

I've been playing without the music lately, but that gets to be a bit old after awhile, and it would be nice to have it back.

Here's the required info specified in the Sticky:

Publisher/Patch: CK ATARI, with the 1.04a English patch.
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600)
Computer Make, Model, CPU: Well, it's a system my friend built mostly from scratch, but dxdiag says NVIDIA is the System Manufacturer, and it says the system model is "AWRDACPI."
Sound Card: NVIDIA nForce Audio w/ driver v6.14.0348.0000
Processor: I quote: "AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.1GHz
Memory: 512MB
Free Disk Space: 28.1Gb
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 w/ driver v6.14.0010.6177 and 128MB of memory.
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

i know this is old but - have you got the latest sound drivers ? Im pretty sure it must be from your sound card if everything else is fine.

lets hope that helps.

I doubt there is but worth a try.
If not post back here and I will give you some things to try.

If you don't figure out the problem, you can always try playing the CK music by Media Player or WinAmp or equilevant on the background. They are in MP3 format in Music subfolder of your CK folder.

Okay go into DXdiag and then the sound/music tab.
Look for the acceleration slider and try different setting with it, that should fix up the problem.

Alright, I tried all three of the different settings: no acceleration, basic acceleration, and standard (I think.), and the distortion is still happening. I have a tab for sound and a different tab for music in DXdiag, should I change the acceleration for both, or music instead of sound?

Also, when I downloaded the drivers, I downloaded the driver for normal XP first, when I have professional, and I didn't realize it until after I had installed it. I then downloaded the driver for XP professional, and installed it. Could that be a problem, could the drivers not be working because I installed them over the wrong set?

does this distorsion thing happen in other Games and/or applications or ONLY in paradox games ? :D

Don't forget to reset your acceleration sliders to full then.
