I am also having problems with patch 1.09. I uninstalled my original version of the game and did a fresh install but every time I load 1.09 and try to start the game it crashes. I went and checked the folder and the exe still says version 1.00 so I’m guessing that may have something to do with it. Anyone have any suggestions?

Who is the publisher of your game version, Their logo will be on the CD.

Try reinstalling the patch.

What happens when you installed, doid it look like it worked?
Did you reinstall to the Same folder or a different one?
Does you Computer maybe think your HOI2 is located in a different folder and still there?

You may find the patch this readme file points to helps. When I first tried the basic game (from Strategy First's CD), it wouldn't save my game and would not load - even though I am not in North America. The patch cured that problem. When I came to reinstall 1.09, I used the add/remove command in the Windows control panel to remove EU2. I deleted the EU folder and cleared it from the recycle bin and re-booted my machine. I then installed the basic game, went to the patches directory on Strategy First's website found the patch, a 309k file, downloaded it and then downloaded a 1.09 exe file from the forum. Whn I get to the scenario/game choice screen, the text in the top left tells me I am using EU2 v1.09.

That is for the version released by SF in the conquest pack, you will find a note about that in the sticky htread on the subject.
Paradox does not support that particular release you would need to contact SF for support.

Thanks for the help but I think the problem might actually be with CD. I unistalled it again and tried to load the game before installing the patch and it gave me the same problem. I'll try having the CD repaired and go from there. Again I appreciate the effort to help me.

keep me posted please.

I posted last week that i was having trouble with Europa Universalis II not playing, recently I reinstalled Hearts of Iron and ran into the same problem. Now, neither of the two games will start, they crash right after the intro videos load. I've uninstalled both and reinstalled them attempting to start both games without patches and then patched with the same result. Do you have any ideas on how I can go about fixing this problem. It must be a setting or something because I have played both games before on the computer I am currently on and I know the disks are working because I have loaded the games onto a laptop I have as well.

Rename the AVI folder to AVi_back and try it.
