I bought Europa Universalis: Rome - Gold Edition on the holidays promotions on Steam and i can´t play it. I installed the game and when I start it he doesn't iniciate and displays an error message saying that the game is not available and to try later, i've bought the game on tuesday, 21 december, and so far the game shows the same message.

I have another problem with the game, why the game Vae Victis appears outside of the package Europa Universalis: Rome - Gold Edition, and shows information about the game Ceville that i don' even know what game it is.

I already contacted the support of Steam and as always they are very helpful (or NOT) and said that i should contact the support of Paradox, but they are closed for holidays (the support) so i'm trying to get my answers from the Paradox Foruns.

I hope that someone can help me, so I can enjoy this game before the weekend it's over. Thanks to everyone.

Happy holidays to everyone.....

Welcome to the awesomeness that is Steam.

I don't have a lot of experience with Steam (only have about 4 games installed from it), but try going to the game's Properties and click the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" button under the "Local Files" tab. It could be that something didn't install properly and it's giving you an error message; since you bought it so long ago, I doubt it's a problem with Steam itself. You could also try completely uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

I've had this error before, it's usually from Steam not being able to communicate properly with its servers or somesuch IIRC. For me the problem usually fixes itself within hours (or a day or two at most), but four days is a bit much.

Who knows. The few Steam games I've got, like Mount & Blade Warband, tend to show the base game being separate from the expansion even when bought as a "Gold" edition. I doubt there'd be an issue with running one over the other, though.

This is something that annoys me about many customer support systems. They point the finger at someone else rather than actually helping you - in this case, assuming you pass all of the minimum requirements and so on, Steam should be the ones helping you since the error you got is a Steam error.

Good luck, though.

Thank you for having responded so soon, but I've done everything you said, i've verified the integrity of the game cache, and i've uninstalled and reinstalled the game and it keeps showing the same error message.

Steam is only concerned about selling games, this is the felling that i have, they worry about promotions and packages so we buy the games, but their support for these games is to have us speak with the company that made the games and thus get rid of work.

I guess I'll have to wait for the support of Paradox to come back from the holiday vacations.

But thank you anyway.

Yeah, steam doesn't work too well with paradox, especially if you try to install mods. I'd recommend using GamersGate for future paradox purchases. They have some awesome sales sometimes as well.

I have had the exact same problem! It is very dissapointing to pay for and download a game and then have to go through a bunch of trouble to get it to work. I checked on their support page and it listed the "game not found" problem and I tried every suggested fix and it changed absolutely nothing. Will keep trying and please tell if you get it figured out. Thanks!

Opened a ticket but have gotten no response. I understand it's the holidays but I did purchase this game after all. Now I cant even connect to the Steam network and play any of my Steam games. I am certainly very unimpressed with Steam so far.

Okay, here's why it's like that: The big install, that shows Rome info instead of Ceville, is the actual game, including VV. You install that, and run it from that, and game should work. The other thing is merely the code for VV. That's literally it. Running it won't work, because there's no .exe, which is why Steam says to check back later, which essentially means "no app here, bro!"

Actually the solution given by Falconet worked, I installed Microsoft Visual C 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) but was outdated and I didn't noticed, and now i did the daily check for updates and appeared to me a newer version which I installed and now the game works perfectly.

About Ceville, I had already reached the conclusion that the large file was the whole game, and that the game that is named Europa Universalis: Rome - Vae Victis is an error because it shows information about Ceville. What i wanted is for them to remove that game from my list of games, since i don't have the game.

Since Paradox moved this post to the tech support forum, I was wondering why there was this game exchange of Ceville and Europa Universalis: Rome - Vae Victis, if you know what caused that situation.

You could try the User Mods forum here, presumably others have come across the same issue. Failing that, ask Steam.

Go to the folder where the game is installed and choose the file named Rome (not romegame) which has the paradox logo_Open it and it opens the launcher where you can choose the mods. Then click start game in the launcher.Create a shortcut to the desktop to make it easier.

Hope I helped
