A friend and I have tried playing Victoria many times MP, over LAN and also over the Internet -- and whoever isn't hosting the game always ends up with the same problems.

Some of the buttons in game randomly refuse to work -- the Repay Loan button most often, but the Add button (to add workers to factories) or even the Improve railroad button periodically just don't work. It doesn't matter whether you have the money, the resources, or the workers. And the button will even be lit up as though you could click it -- but clicking it has no effect whatsoever. If you aren't hosting the game, it simply doesn't work -- leaving the other people in the game basically screwed.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? My friend and I are both running 1.03 -- does the 'c' patch fix this?

Victoria is hard enough as it is -- if the game doesn't work the way it's supposed to it's only less enjoyable and more difficult. Any help anyone could offer would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks!

From the sounds of it, it's just lagging. Wait around a little while and it'll eventually register.

Loans OTOH aren't able to be paid in MP from waht I've observed. It's rather odd, I think it's a bug.

The bug (and I think it is actually a bug) that prevents POPs going to factories can often be fixed by reloading the savegame. We've had this problem several times.

The number one fix is to pause or slow down the game to make up for the differences in connection speed (the game gets 'out of synch').

yes, rehosting will usually fix the pops not going into factories, the rest sound like lag.

I'm not sure this is the case.

I have also experienced all of the symptoms mentioned above, buttons not working, POP's not able to move to factories, over a LAN connected MP game. Slowing down, even pausing for several minutes did not solve the problem. Placing the POP assignment under computer control did have some effect.

I have also seen a client computer finish researching a tech, only to automatically begin researching the same tech once the first research is complete, specifically clean coal.

Have you seen this?

yes the tech thing happens when you are lagging, and you hit the research button more than once when youstart the tech. However many times you click it, that is how many times it researches it. So if you click the research button and nothing happens, dont go hog wild and click it over and over. You will be researching it for the rest of the game...

I have had all these problems frequently. all due to lag.

you just answered my first question.... I`m playing a lot of paradox-games in a LAN with friends and we`ve experienced all the above-mentioned problems, and dealt with them by rehosting. But the first time we had a problem with researching a tech multiple times was yesterday. This one wasn`t solved by rehosting.

But is there any way to avoid these problems? We`ve played in a LAN where all computers have 3,2GHZ+, 1024 RAM and we`ve never played above "normal" speed.... And still we experience these problems a lot.

you cant fix the research bug by rehosting, once you click on it a bunch of times its done. I dont know of any way to stop lag, if that is what you are asking. Just slow it is about all you can do.
