Hello, newcomer to DH and really loving it. One question, is it possible to keep older tech once you've completed a higher level of research?

I'm playing the 1936 scenario and find it kind of weird that the Panzer I tech is disabled and all I have is Panzer IIs. Is it possible to have both? It would seem more realistic to have different tanks to build my units with.

AFAIK, it isn't possible. If more people show such an interest, I can ask the team about it. TBH, though I would prefer only the advanced model. Jmo, ymmv
You do know that ships obsolete by 1 generation can still be produced, right?

The smallest unit is a division. You can only have one type of tanks in a division. You can, however, disable auto-upgrade of a division, so you can combine a division of Panzer 1 and a division of Panzer 2 into a corps. When building tanks you can also disable auto-upgrade in the production tab.

Great! Thanks for pointing that out.

Is this same technique possible for infantry units, artillery, aircraft, ships, etc.?

Yes, you can. I wouldn't but you can if you like.

Only reasons I can think of is gearig bonus
Can't be that. Your production lines don't vanish, so your gearing bonus is kept.
So you can easily have multiple production lines of units which no longer can be built anew, just don't delete them.

Was thinking of choosing not to auto-upgrade the existing productionline, keeping an obsolete model in production to keep the gearing bonus. Granted, not quite the same as starting a new line with putdated material but..

I guess I am just dense. Why would you want to produce obsolete units? The only time I can see that being useful is when a new generation starts using fuel. Japan, for example, generation 3 cavalry upgrading to generation 4. You might choose to stay with Gen 3 especially during the war against China. That is easily handled with the do not upgrade button though.

The only times it works for me, is building WW1 aircraft in the 30s and 40s because they're super cheap. But that might be an exploit only possible in certain mods?

Just don't research any more advanced models then. Or make 99 serials and use the do not upgrade button.

Most countries aren't allowed to build WW1 aircraft in 1933 or later scenarios. I'm not advocating for it, just explaining. Although it is an exploit I take advantage of when playing TGC.
