More pics!

Here are some various screenshots taken from my tests. Enjoy!
The CORE team are still working on some critical AI issues so please be patient and hopefully these screenshots will help keep you all distracted.
If you have any questions regarding the screens please ask and I'll explain :)

So, I love CORE as much as I love the HOI series, all the way back to the HOI1 CORE mods. But at this point should I start expecting HOI3 to come out before HOI2 CORE?

I recognize and understand that CORE is volunteer driven, and I am grateful for the time put into the mod by the developers, testers and everyone else. Yet the last 0.32 update was released what, 14 months ago? And I've played it to death. I would love a new challenge, and I'm starting to think that HOI3 will be released before CORE/HOI2, and thus in a sense making all the 0.4 work in a sense, 'obsolete'.

Any news, guys?

The release date of HoI3 isn't the main threat, it's the release date of patch #2.
But seriously, right now we're nearly there, but not quite actually there regarding a formal release of 0.4.0. So that most definately means we'll need another Beta Release Candidate, possibly even more. El alamein's screenies show the progress we've made the last couple of months, but fiddling with the AI has proven itself to be a tricky business... The good news is we've consistently made good progress on that front, rather than having to go forward by 'trial and error'. Personally I can't wait to get this puppy out of the door sooner rather than later, but do agree we can only do so if some last major issues are fixed first.

The main issue is the slow capture of France by Germany. Once this is sorted the other issues will fall into place much better. The late surrender of France means that Barbarossa is usually postponed until 1942 or later, which then makes it harder for Germany to advance any decent amount into Soviet territory. It's kind of a snowball effect. We need the campaign to run roughly historically in a handsoff game, so the player doesn't get frustrated with things not turning out as expected. I myself get dismayed when Germany takes too long to break through into France because I know it will delay the rest of the historical events that should happen ie. the Balkans campaign, Barbarossa etc. This needs to be resolved otherwise we will have everyone complaining about the ahistorical order of things every game. It's getting very close, but just not as good as we all would like just yet. The results are much, much better than earlier beta versions, but there is still some work to do. We don't want to release a half finished product for everyone, and believe me we are all working hard to get things right for the public so they have a realistic and enjoyable challenge. We know you will appreciate the effort put in once it is available to play! :D

Thanks for putting in that care and attention. I would rather wait and have the AI perform in a reasonably historical fashion.

I played Mod33 again recently as Italy and it's frustrating to see AI Germany collapse against the Soviets again. I've only played to that stage twice with Mod33 so I don't know if it's random chance or a systemic problem. But I'd much rather play a game where the AI has been coaxed into performing as historically as possible, while still allowing some ahistorical outcomes.

Cheers,
Sword

I appreciate the information and totally understand your point. However I almost always play as Germany so having a rather weak German AI wouldn't bother me a bit.

Thanks for your support! We want it released as much as anyone but we really want it to be as polished and realistic as possible without any game breaking bugs/events that will spoil the enjoyment for the player. :D
Having said that though we are nearly there...;)

care to fill us in on anything new? it can be good or bad, just like knowing how you guys are progressing.
Preparing for a 1.3 patch compliant, new Beta. No specific release date for that one, as of yet... As said before, the Beta cycle is about a month or so apart due to the number of files that need adressing.

Good to hear, please keep us posted, I'm sure I'm not the only one craving for more information on progress being made. As per my usual, I don't ask for release dates.
Well, I never have any secrets about our progress (or lack thereof, if applicable)... Must be a job deformity, being an ICT project manager...

Why not release the last beta for the 1.2 patch? It would draw people to core and give the fans some idea about the final .4 for patch 1.3...

Because patch 1.3 solves issues that seriously affect version 0.4.0, like the ghost fleet problem.

I agree with that, but it would really be a very nice gesture... if there wasn't a 1.3 patch i suppose it would come almost like the last beta so why not release it for the 1.2 patch, it would shorten the waiting time for a lot of people.

As thinks stand I do think migrating to the 1.3 patch isn't really setting us back too much... Dec's still tweaking the AI to have Germany perform better against France in 1940, while Tim is focusing on the 1.3 compliancy. Obviously we had a discussion within the team whether or not to migrate to 1.3, weighing the pros and cons. With about half of the Betas already using the 1.3 patch with the latest Beta, with the main issues being the new spy system (which was a headache anyway in the old version), there seemed little point in remaining 1.2 compliant.

Again I agree... but 1.3 will take a long time because you have to wait for the final 1.3 version because the beta has a lot of mistakes ...

I would love to read what the CORE team does to integrate the patch. It would really help other modders like me who have not even looked into it. Could you please post what you had to do to integrate the patch?

I'm hoping that all I have to do for Fallout's Doomsday mod is use the new exe file, and find the additional text file lines I suspect were added to display the new espionage options.

Cheers,
Sword
