The following apparent bug has happened several times during my current GC. If I have military access with Country A and send an army to retake a rebel-held province for them, sometimes after the siege the province will show as being controlled by my country rather than Country A. I believe, but am not certain, that the common element is that if A is at war when I do this (though my country is not involved in the war), that is when control is displayed wrongly. In practice the game engine appears to correct this problem after a few months, though once it went on for at least two years until a save and reload.
So usually the erroneous listing of control by me instead of A is of no consequence, and soon corrected. But there is a very real danger: if in the meantime A has a fall in government then the province goes to me. Although this situation hasn't occurred in my games I am pretty sure this is the explanation for how my son inadvertently stole a province from England in an earlier game, to the bewilderment of both of us.
Technical notes: the version I play is the April 1, 2003 beta after 1.07. I could find no mention of this bug, either in the sticky thread listing of bugs or in things that were changed or fixed for 1.08. Please accept my apology and correct me if I am mistaken in any of this.
