Announcing the completed Province Images Picture Pack.

For those of you who want some added realism to urban terrain modifications to the province.csv file, this is a good add-on. 206 new and modified province bmps to provide added realism to the game. All images are from the HoI2 time period of the city or region shown on the map.

The provinces are:

Some notes:

1) PLEASE BE CAREFUL as adding these files means modifying the province.csv file. I'm not responsible for any oddities that result from modding. Save a backup copy of province.csv before editing.

2) Having said that... for this to work, place the .bmp images in the GFX/interface folder. Then modify the respective province's line in the province.csv to an "urban" terrain. Sorry, the province images are hard-coded to the urban terrain type. As much as I'd like for this to not be so, it's not moddable.

3) Start up the game. This modification will affect the terrain type in all saved and new games.

This has been tested in HoI2 version 1.3a & 1.3b.

no and yes. If you are replacing an urban picture (say London) with a different one (the one in the pack for instance) then it should'nt change the checksum)

however if you are changing the province.csv to make a particular province urban (say Istanbul) then it will change the checksum. Multiplayer opponents would need to use the same province.csv as you are using.

I suppose so, having such a large amount of provinces becoming urban terrain. That would firmly change the whole warfare. That says, Germany will find it even harder to advance into the USSR due to plenty strongholds that give bouns to the defender
 
They don't really all (or any really) need to become urban, the pictures just add some flavor to the game. Adding 200+ urban provinces to the game, would really screw it up.

It would be great if it worked that way,but you can't add photos for flavor because they will only work if they are urban.that being said you can reduce the effects of urban terrain on combat by adjusting the db/units/modifiers file.


I then went back and added forts to key urban provinces to make up for reducing urban combat bonuses.it was a pain in the but,and still need more tweeking to get it right.but it seems to be the only way to beable to add more photos for flavor.it would be alot easier if paradox just let us and any photos to any provinces that we wanted with changing the provinces to urban... :wacko: :wacko: :wacko: :wacko: :wacko:

All right, I'm rather nervous about putting a mod to translate urban provinces to plains since it's a very delicate process, but I'll give you a full description of what you need to do.

Colorscales.csv changes the color of the urban territory to appear as plains. This is in the \map folder

Text.csv and Extra_Text.csv change all "urban" references on the map to "plains", and the urban combat description can be rewritten as "Plains confer no benefit to the attacker nor the defender." These are in the \config folder.

Country.csv changes the political map colors. There are certain colors that will appear to be plains and will thus appear to be empty countries. This is merely an aesthetic change. This is in the \db folder.

Province.csv edits the provinces from "plain" to "urban". This is the most important file and the only one you really need to edit. This is in the \db folder.

Modifiers.csv changes the attack, defend, and movement rates for units in urban terrain to plains. It goes in the \db\units folder. The urban values must be all zero except for DEF_URBAN line, which must be:

Terrain types.csv might modify the rate of movement for urban territory to that of plains. This goes in the \map folder - although I'm unsure if this does anything. I believe the modifiers.csv file handles the movement. Regardless, I've altered this small file.

The .bmp images go in the \GFX\Interface folder.

Note that there are still some non-plain provinces with province images provided in my mod - these you would just have to represent as plains or not at all.

This Rather a Very Large and even more complex project,I myself have been working on it for what seems like forever (Balaning,Rebalancing,Repeat)it is a endless task with no finish line,it sure looks nice with the add flavor and graphics.It has turned into a hobby of mine.


I have yet to Dabble into the colorscale to remove the differnt map color from urban to plain,could you go into a bit more detail on that for me...

You need to copy the color "Orange" into color "DarkGray". Assuming you haven't modified your colors from regular HoI2: you would need to do this:
