Summary

Puppet (German East Indies) freed itself without notification, contrary to game mechanics, while still providing resources for free.

Platform

Steam

Operating System

Windows 10

Game Version

Patch 1.15.1 Checksum c86b

Enabled DLC

  • All of the above

Do you have mods enabled?

No

Description

Playing as Germany, I annexed the Dutch East Indies in 1937 and set them up as a puppet. In 1941, while reviewing my armies, I noticed the Dutch East Indies puppet defense army was missing. Upon investigation, I discovered that the puppet had freed itself without any notification or popup. They are now an independent country with no faction affiliation, even though I have a negative autonomy "master" tick, which should ensure integration, not liberation. Additionally:

They were not participating in my ongoing war.
Despite being independent, I still receive all their resources for free through trade, which seems inconsistent with mechanics.

Steps to Reproduce

Play as Germany in 1936.
Annex the Dutch East Indies and set them as a puppet in 1937.
Continue gameplay until 1941, monitoring puppet status and autonomy progress.
Check puppet autonomy and status – observe if they free themselves contrary to mechanics.

Are you playing on a save from the previous/older version of the game

Yes

I think I know what happened. I exported rubber from there, and that gives autonomy to the subject, which is rather unintuitive. When I steal all their resources, it should cripple their autonomy massively! And I did not get any warning or notification for such a significant event! If it weren’t for the bug, I would have lost all my plane production because of this.

I was gonna make a new post, but am gonna tag onto yours, as my issues are similar...

Playing with identical setup to yourself - first playthrough since the new DLC as germany / regular / achievements. - circa 1944 annexing Iran/Iraq via military conquest. I then continue on through India (under British control). I save the game by quitting to menu (ironman).

I load up HOI4 the next day to continue my playthrough and BOTH Iran and Iraq have gone back to being their own independent countries. No notification or otherwise, and I keep all nations resistance UNDER 30%. These nations were not hostile to me, they were just as if I never took them in the first place.

Now in Jan 1945, I'm having to justify against them again, to fight them a second time round. As far as i'm aware, I wasn't doing any trading or anything else funky with them, I'm just trying to drag the war out as long as I can, to play with as many of the new toys as possible.

Steps to reproduce:

Play as germany/regular/ironman mode/1936 start...
Take all the nations as Germany did (including Sweden) and finish taking Russia, then go for UK. Do not cross the pond, instead grind eastwards, ensuring to capture Iraq & Iran. I sent an Army down to Africa, but unsure if that part is relevant. The main bulk of my army continues thrusting east, through the middle east to capture India from the British Empire... After India has capitulated, begin attacking China (should already be at war, possibly via Jap treaty?) and DO NOT COMPLETE the takeover...

BEFORE completing China, save game (by quitting game) and reload the game at another time, and resume the playthrough - and both Iran & Iraq are suddenly their own nation again... To my knowledge no other nation has flipped, and all other things seem more or less as they were.

Well this is frustrating - after waiting the required time (only 10-15 days) to justify, I can't click to declare war... The tooltip suggests I have a Truce (which I do not). Furthermore, the option to sign a non-agression pact is ruled out as "they will refuse to accept". So the whole thing somehow isn't saving right in the late stages of war when going outside the narrative.

As you can see, the "declare war" tooltip is ready to go, but I can't declare. Interestingly, I held onto Kuwait from the region.

I think this is a diffrent issue and warrents a new bug but i thank you for your insight!

Hello there! With your help Imp0815 and XSDNA, we have now confirmed the issue and added it to our database!

As for the issue from the second comment from XSDNA. As it is shown in the images, German Reich has a truce with a Iraq, due to probably kicking Iraq from the faction, so this works as designed. Germany could justify war goals very fast and it can be completed before the Truce went out.
