I know this question is rather hard to answer, considering how far this mod has to go, but do you have a (rough) estimate of when a playable beta would be available? Nice map, Army sprites, etc, btw. Ive been following this mod since the day you announced it, just haven't posted yet. :)

Map is really coming along quickly!

Thanks, but no, I'm afraid I can't give you any estimate.
The map editor isn't out yet, and even when the map is finished it'll take a while to make a playable scenario.
Of course, everyone willing to help is most welcome :D

Hi! I think you should include Isle of Wight as a province. The Romans fought many battles with the local Briton tribes there.. (The island on the South Coast in white). It's called Vectis in Latin.
And I think your province 526 could be called Erotavium..

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll consider your request for Vectis, although it would probably be the smallest province on the map, I'm not sure it will be a clickable province in the end. And can you give me a source for Erotavium, I can't find it anywhere.

Sorry.. I was mistaken. I looked at a wrong map. It's strange that no name is visible on any maps for that part...

Hi, I'm very interested in this project and I knew of a few ancient maps that could help with Scottland, the ones of Ptolemy, which covered areas that didn't fall completely or for a long time under Roman control, please, visit "http://www.ambaile.org.uk/en/item/item_maps.jsp?item_id=18248" and click on the map. If you can you should turn your screen 90º anti-clockwise, but it's only something I recommend. I like the name "Uxellum", but I'm not the one who decides. Just in case one of the readers interested in the idea doesn't know how to read Latin: Names in capital letters on a land province are tribe names and are all in plural (CALEDONII=Caledonians). Thanks for beginning this amazing map.

Thanks for that link, interesting map. :)
I'm doing the Roman areas first (next update will include Egypt), then I'll try to fill in the rest as best as I can with the information available. I'm sure this map will be helpful, although it does seem to have a few errors. Thanks again, and if you've got more, you know what to do :)

Maybe this is a stupid question, but will all provinces have Latin names? How about areas that was never part of the Roman Empire? Or won't they be included?

Yes, I'll try to use Latin everywhere. Most areas outside the empire, and a number of the tribes living there, are only known by their Roman names, so it's the only sensible solution really. Keeps things consistent, too.
The only areas excluded from the map will be regions that cannot be traversed by armies (mountain ranges, deserts). These are the areas greyed out on the map.

Sounds good... :)

It's been a while since I updated this. First off, this project is not dead :)
I've had very little time to work on it though, and that may continue until August. There is one other thing, though. As much as I love Victoria, I'm not really sure what I'm trying to do will work out very well using the Vicky engine.
That said, we're talking months, maybe a year before I can put a playable version up. My desktop computer died on me about a month ago, and my old laptop will only barely allow me to load the draft files for the new map. With no news on the map editor all this other stuff going on and slowing me down, I've been mulling over the thought of porting this whole thing to EU3.

Let me give you a few pros and cons:

Pro:
- Easy map editing
- 'modder's wet dream', allowing greater flexibility
- Better suited to the time scale (say 300 years), and perhaps the time frame as well.
- Won't take as much effort and time to put out a playable version that can be improved later.

Con:
- Less complex (economy, POPs etc).
- 'Dynamic' events/leader/monarchs. This is a deal breaker until a possibility is found to have a more deterministic game.

So that's about it. No decision made yet. I know some people have been following this project for a long time and I'm not sure what you all will think of this. I'd appreciate any comments you might have.

I think many people would be disappointed. If you need help I'll be glad to do something in order to keep the project under the Victorian standard. Order me to peel potatoes or anything you need  .

However, the EUIII community will be extremely pleased if such a great work is to be played on EUIII.

Please, stay with us, Maladict

Thanks for your reply. I was getting worried about there being anyone at all reading this. :eek:o
Not much to report, my laptop won't let me work on the map for more than 5 minutes before overheating and shutting down (thanks Dell!).
I'm going to spend all of May abroad without computer access (oh, the horror), so I might as well give it all a break, or maybe work on a few events. I won't take you up on your offer for now, although it is much appreciated. It seems unfair to get people working on stuff when I'm not sure it will ever be put to use. I did make up my mind on one thing: if no way is provided to get rid of the dynamic systems in EU3 I won't touch it. So there is hope :)
