I was attempting to change the settings; resolution to 1024X768 from 800 X 600; when i happened to click the settings icon in the EU2 file an error appeared stating that the 'oleaut32.dll' was out of date and that i needed a newer version. I don't have an understanding as to y this happened; previously i could access the settings to change resolutions. I recently uninstalled EU2 and then reinstalled, and tried the new 1.00 to 1.02 patch, though i dont believe the patch had anything to do with this becuz i attempted to change the setting before i unziped the patch? Direct x8 may hold some value but this is the first problem ive had with the settings since i bought the game in december. If anyone is interested in helping me; perhaps if they have the NA EU2 version to email me the 'oleaut32.dll' as an attachment at itzalgud@yahoo.com-the .dll file is in the stratgeyfirst/EU2 folder. Anybody have any ideas????

you probably installed another software/shareware that overwrote the file.

It's located in your Windows\System directory. Find the file and right-click on it. Tell me what version it is please. I'll compare it to mine. If I have a more recent one, I will e-mail it to you.

it should be 2.4.4514 at the very least. :)

Replace the file in the EU2 directory with mine, or add the extension .OLD to it and put mine in the windows\system directory.

I'm sending it to you my dear capitalist bastard :D

Ok chapter 2:D

I have your version 'oleaut32.dll' now as 'oleaut32.old' now curently in my windows/system directory. Unfourtunately, the obsolete 'oleaut32.dll' is clinging to windows for dear life and will not be moved, renamed, deleted, swapped, cut, etc. They are quite attached and i don't know how to get windows to trust me and let me replace the older version to the newer version. any ideas?? could i pull this off in windows safe mode??? and how do i run safe mode if thats a possible solution

by default, the game will look in its directory first to search for the file. Therefore, the file OLEAUT32.DLL in the EU2 directory must be renamed to OLEAUT32.OLD. Second, your existing file in the Windows\System directory must be renamed to OLEAUT32.OLD before you put my file in there. It is possible Windows won't let you do that, in that case, you will have to boot in Safe mode if you have Win Me, or go to the DOS with any other version.

Using the function "Restart in MS-DOS mode" and follow my instructions once you are at the DOS prompt ( <C:\WINDOWS> ):
  1. cd system
  2. rename oleaut32.dll *.old
  3. copy a:\oleaut32.dll c:\windows\system
  4. CTRL-ALT-DEL
A:\ is where my file is; simply change the path to the one where your file is :)

Now start the game and play! :)
