I have installed hoi2 from the original CD and when I apply the patch 1.3a the computer "tells me" that I have selcted an option that require files to be installed or to be uninstalled or both, why this question? I also wounder why I don't need my original CD in the drive when I use windows xp media center edition, but now I have to, with xp home edition, but only without the patch 1.3a, after installed the patch I don't have to use the original CD anymore. I just want to be sure the game is OK and not an illegal copy someone have sold to me, I also have other strange things going on with the game but i should not ask about that in this part of the forum.

Thank you for the best strategy game ever made, every patch makes it just better and better!

A.H.

Well if you are installing the patch then you are installing files to your computer, so that message makes sense, it could be from your virus protection, or if you did not download it and tried to install it direct from the internet.

Regarding if you have a legit copy, did you buy it from a reputible retailer?

I start to be more and more convinced that I have an illegal copy. I have tried with several versions of windows and I have installed the game the first thing after clean install of windows without any other programmes intalled, but always the same thing, I bought the game from a store online in sweden I don't know if I can tell you in this post from where I bought it but it was very cheap, the cheapest in sweden. I thaught it was something that always happened (the install) but now I understand that it's something strange going on here. I have downloaded the patch several times from this site, always with the same result when I trie to install it. What should I do, send it back claiming it's an illegal copy? All other programms works fine and I have never problems with any other programs, I use around 50 other games and programs without problems. Should hoi2 work with "media center edition"? as I told you, I don't need the cd in the drive when using it? Another strange thing is that after uninstalling hoi2, when I try to reinstall, the computer tells me I alredy have another versin installed, seems like the uninstaller is unable to delete all files

I'm from sweden, sorry for my spelling/grammar but when this issue is solved I will stay away from here an play the game instead

Well does the CD have a Paradox logo on it?
It could depend on what version you have whether you need to have the CD in the drive, there are legit copies where you do not need the CD in the drive.

It has a Paradox logo, a small one about 1 cm, is it automatically a legal one because of that? What about all the qestions I have to answer during install, have you ever heard about that before, as I told you I have tried two systems win xp mce and win xp home, the result is that there are diffrences?

It could just be some difference in the two operating systems.
What does it say on the reverse side of the CD?
Should be a name and a serial number.

I did ask for the serial number.

I will check into it.

I had asked Florian to take a look but he was really busy and may have missed it, I will double check with him.

Yes, thanks Castellon, I did indeed think I had covered all allready, but I obviously missed this thread.

HoI2 should not request the CD from you at all, not with any patch. What language is it in and it what country was it originally sold? Maybe it is some off version? If it is a Swedish one it shoudl be published by Panvision.

Also all the files necessary to run the game are installed right away so this sounds strange as well.

I have asked one of our Programmers to have a look at this thread, maybe he has an idea.

Hi again,

Our programmers here are equally surprised by this CD as you were. As you are from Sweden, I would ask you to send the cd to:

Paradox Interactive
Florian
Sveavägen 9 (Hitechbuilding)
10152 Stockholm

If it is a legal copy I can send you a new one right away. If it is not, I would obviously like to know where you bought it (Would be great to get a receipt), and I guess we can find a legal one one somewhere here in the office.
