I've noticed that everytime I insert the EU CD (US version) and it autoplays, a 'wise installation wizard' window pops up, then displays the start menu. I expected to see the installation wizard when installing, but not afterwards. I can think of one other game (Homeworld) that does the same thing.

However, since installing and playing EU I've noticed that, when I turn on my computer, while booting up I see a 'Windows is updating system files' message, like it would after installing new software and hardware. Is it possible that this installation wizard is somehow making changes everytime the program runs, instead of simply detecting that the game's been installed and taking you to the start menu?

This doesn't appear to be causing any problems but I thought I should mention it here.

Couple things to check....

Check your registry and do a search for anything related to Strategy First, Europa Universalis, Paradox, etc. Note how many entries there are, then shutdown and reboot. If you get the message again, then re-open REGEDIT and check the entries again. If there're more, then the program is re-registering itself each time (which it shouldn't).

Also, check your Startup directory to make sure there's nothing in there other than normal. You can also run MSCONFIG and see if there was anything added to your startup configuration. Other than that, unless this installation somehow managed to make itself resident in your boot record or is called when Windows starts, you shouldn't be seeing that. Could just be the way that particular version of WISE handles loading the Start screen too....

I had similar 'problems' with my PC at home and the reason for that was that I had accepted that Windows ME updated the system automatically. It connected to MS and updated things without telling me at all... I re-installed and just answered no to that question and haven't had that prob since.
