I am trying to revert to the 1.1 version because I have a saved game that I want to finish and didn't realise that 1.1 saved games weren't supported by 1.2.

So I go and uninstall the game and make sure all files are gone (except my save game files) then reinstall. Then try to reuse the 1.1 patch. It gives me an error telling me that I have a higher version installed. I fire up the game and the load screen tells me I am using 1.00. I tried to download a fresh copy of the 1.1 patch and get the same result.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I really want to finish this game. Just about to start Barbarossa. Thanks.

Follow the manual uninstall instruction in the sticky thread of the same name.

I would like to verify that the manual uninstall instructions work for XP. I wanted to revert to 1.1 like the OP, though for different reasons.

A few notes on the process:

My registry key was under Paradox Interactive. Paradox Entertainment had registry stuff for EU2. I had a HOI2 folder, and I also had a Hearts of Iron 2 folder. The Hearts of Iron 2 folder had a key for 1.1 and 1.2. The HOI2 folder was empty. I deleted all of them.

Before I tried to uninstall, I picked the reinstall option in the Uninstall Program. This led to what the program called a "Catastrophic Failure". I don't know if this is why the Uninstall failed to do a clean sweep or not.

I did NOT have to go into InstallShield Installation Information as the instructions suggested would not be necessary.

I verified that the new install for HOI2 worked and the 1.1 patch works fine too.

Yup that procedure has been used for XP very often. That part is just a left over from the original post, way back when hardly anyone had XP. :)

Thanks for the tip about Interactive vs entertainment though, that change sliped through the cracks of my brain, since I do not have a retail copy. :)
