Hey Jeremy,

I've been doing some research, and I think the Byzantine flag you have on your site (and used for the Byzantine Saga) is, in part, incorrect. From what I've read, the flag you are using consists of the proper Byzantine flag quartered (for some reason) with the Cross of St. George. I've seen the website you originally got that flag from, but to be perfectly honest, among the fairly large number of websites and books I've seen, that is the only one that uses the flag on your site. Every other one uses the one exhibited as the flag of Romania (i.e. the Byzantine/Roman Empire) near the top of this page (be forewarned, this page takes awhile to load):

This flag is used in two quarters in the flag you have right now. What is your opinion on this? If this is the correct Byzantine flag, I would like to see it used over an incorrect one...

Sorry I'm a little late answering this, Demetrios.
The problem with Byzantium is that they probably never had a national flag or a coat of arms.
When I was asked to make a Byzantine shield I thought the obvious choice would be the "Byzantine Eagle".
But I found out that it was used as a supporter, not in the shield.
The next candidate would be the "Tetragrammatic Cross". At least some people considered it to be the national coat of arms.
(while others said it's the Paleologus family crest) I also discovered the "St. George Cross" flag,
but found it a bit strange to use that cross in an Byzantine shield. But I made 3 different versions,
and the "St. George" shield turned out to be the most popular and the choice of the forum.
But this is a game and I realised I wanted something more impressive when playing The Byzantin Empire,
so I am already working on a couple of new shields. (No.4 & 5)

Ooooooh

I really like the tetragrammic cross with the eagle supporter ones. Pity it's so hard to make out the eagle...

I noticed the other day that Paradox was using the "St. George" version on their screenshots, and, well, I disagree with that choice (I think it is somewhat more ahistorical as well as just being too "busy" compared to the heraldic simplicity of the plain tetragrammatic ones). As I have said, I too have seen most sources state that the nearest thing the Byzantines had to a consistant coat of arms or flag was the one you have in the first example. Any chance of you mentioning this to Paradox and persuading them to use examples 1, 4, or 5?

If not, well, I'll have a custom avatar ready if and when I reach 3000 posts... :D

LOL

Thanks for upping my confidence there BiB.

This post of course will make it one less to get there; only 2297 to go! :D

If it isn't very difficult i'd like to see the eagle of St. John in the United Spain shield(Catholic Kings shield)

It's the flag of Constantine the Great. Try Here for some other ideas.

Wotfor? For the Roman Empire I presume??? I would love it, since I love the Roman Empire, but I don't know where it could be put to good use?
