I really think that the ai has its priorities wrong when having the colonists move. I'm not sure there is any role playing or logical reason for it. Doing it manually takes too long and the ai cant think right. the ai, i.e. the game, knows what jobs are available, and where. it knows where the residences are free. it should know where a dome has:
residence free y/n
job free y/n and (~/~)
job spec free y/n and (~/~)

so when i set down a ship full of exactly the amount and type of people i need on the pad ~15 spaces away with their jobs awaiting, the engineer doesn't grab the first job they see instead of going to the engineering job they are here to do. and so on. its very aggrivating.

Why wont colonists move to a dome and take an available specialty job?

Why, when there 2 shuttle hubs dedcated to colonist transport, serviced by 12 shuttles, in a colony with 2 seperate zones, are the shuttles unavailable or out of range?

how do i mod/fix this?

or am i expecting too much?

have a nice day

Reactions:
Sometimes the colonists take a couple of days to move or change jobs, even in adjacent domes. Have you tried manually moving them?

I have yes. that's where i'm getting the unavailable/range thing. and it works. sometimes. i have a very complex, semi repeatable procedure that can work with time, but i cant have the colonist move residence or job just with mouse clicks, like the game itself instructs. i get no confirmation of successful actions. i select the colonist, L click the residence/ workplace get a very brief message that there is no shuttle (of 12 dedicated) in range or available.

its not a problem with hundreds, but when the own game rules don't work... or, how many sols does it really take? the tip note says something about no other assignments for 5 sols. thats along time to find a proper job indome, mabey not a stretch move and find work in another dome.

but they didnt have to be in that dome in the first place, i had a officer working in an infirmary,(right next to the security station with an empty job slot!) a nobody working in my GD rare metals refinery, and a geologist working in the electronics factory. only people who had to be in the dome were geologistss, and engineers.

the ai seems able with pathing, but cant play with the cube with shapes in its sides- you know that kids toy. but again its not a problem late game when 10% homelessness, and 10 % unemployment means "people" are too stupid to commute 14(?) hexes.

still a fun game
