after using the search mode and checking both faq web sites I have yet to find the anwers to the following....

How do you honor an alliance ? in rule book it says when a nation goes to war each of its allies will be asked if it wants to help...yet no matter how many times I play I never recieve any prompt...

If I manually declare war I end up taking full hit for stability which I thougt was not supposed to happen when honoring an alliance. I do not see any option to join war or onor allaince in my diplomatic screen/list so how do I honor an alliance and not take the huge hits? The rule book implies and many faqs imply that the hit is supposed to be less when you support an ally in war...otherwise much of the purpose in alliances is defeated for me <up to now alliances ave merely been tools to reduce number of those that are free to declare war on me and for progessing to vassals>

I have never once , despite having 200 relations with my allies ,had any of them ever declare war on my side in over 5 games <3 as poland, 1 scotland 1 sweden> I have never sene an option to manually ask them to aid me... where is it if there is one?

I know I must be missing someting <and I always keep a pool of at least 3 diplomats ready at all times so its not 'not having a diplomat'> any clues ?

Until I find a answer I'm stuck with either refusing to ally to save my stability or joining allies who are least likely to go to war for any reason..which is kinda pointless since if they that passive they arent goin to be much help if needed <assuming I can get them to help me somehow>

You are missing small icon in top right corner of your screen. Whenether you or on of your allies declare war or receve declaration of war from somebody this small icon will pop up. If you click on it you will get a chance either to join a war honoring your alliance or call upon your allies. The icon will vanish after sometimes. After that you have no more chance of calling your allies or if they were calling you it means you dishonored your alliance.

If you right-click on the message box when it comes up, you can change the notification option so it springs up as a box, or even pauses the game.

I certainly recommend doing this for:

* alliances expiring (currently just a message in the game log)
* bringing your allies into a war (currently the little flag in the corner of the screen)
* other countries annexing third countries, or making peace treaties with them (so you can keep an eye on the geopolitics).

I definitely want a pause on this as well. There's nothing more irritating than cultivating a fantastic alliance, and then upon expiry finding that your most important ally just joined the French or Spanish alliances (which tend to last forever, since they're nearly always at war with someone).

Good ideas. Also, I like to get a text box for

* expiring royal marriages (just in case I'm in a situation where I try to keep an aggressive neighbor at bay)
* calls to arms from my allies. (I also have the game pause for this; I think delaying the decision infinitely is almost cheating.)

thanks for te prompt replies....i've noticed the icons in upper right before but whenever I've tried to click on em I keep entering the province or army its over at time...now that I know wat the icons do i'll try a bit harder, at least I know where to go

I'd also like to see a pop up added for construction units...many times when you ave few yards to mnake sips yo kinda wantto keep on top of its production and want to know wen its done so as to continue more build immediately <or perhaps a button to select for auto-build wereby te province will repeat last build over and over till turned off>

It's been mentioned before, but an option to say "Repeat this build command until I have 20 warships in this province" or "150000 infantry" would be nice.
