December 31st 2014.
All of a sudden, for no reason, the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland decide to form a single country. When asked to comment, the US President says "think of how much fun the Elections would be!"
Due to this sudden change, all the various political parties need to merge. Before that can happen though the US is rocked by massive protests. Both major parties split in two. The same thing also happened in Australia too, but to a smaller extent.

The US Tea Party decides to merge with the UK Conservatives and the Australian Liberals and more.
The US 99% Party decides to merge with Labour and Labor, as well as the NDP in Canada and others
The Moderate factions of the Republicans and Democrats merge along with moderates from elsewhere in the new country.

The new parties each have an official name.

Coalition of Conservative, Conservatives, Tea Party, Liberals, Nationals, National, Fine Gael and other like-minded Capitalists.
"Capitalist Coalition" for short
C - their letter acronym
The party uses Blue as it's official colour, with cyan highlights.

Partnership of New Democrats, 99%ers, Labour, Labour, Labour, and Labor and other similar Progressives.
"Progressive Partnership"
P
Red is the official colour, with green highlights.

Merger of Democrats, Republicans, Liberals, Liberal Democrats, Moderate Liberals, Moderate Labor, Fianna Fail, and other forces Mainstream.
"Mainstream Merger"
M
Yellow with gold/orange

The most recent poll indicated the following level of support in the Presidential election to occur this year:

C - 33.3%
P - 33.3%
M - 33.3%

The electoral system is based on the US electoral system, winner takes all in each state. Each US state offers the same number of Electoral votes as it did in the most recent US Presidential election. Each Canadian Province, Australian State, British Region, as well as Ireland and New Zealand has an amount of Electoral votes equal to what it would get according to the US Electoral College. Whomever wins the most Electoral votes, even if under a majority, becomes the next President.

Each party has 1 player. Sign up if interested and a map will be posted. This game is a quick minigame and will not run beyond a few days or weeks depending on how fast players respond.

I choose the Progressives!

I choose M, the centralists!

((Viva the Centralution! The centralists will enforce their moderate vision on this world, by force or by reason!))

Maps!

There are 787 electoral votes.

3 in the Territories, which are split across the nation
53 in the Pacific
73 in Canada
123 in the UK
and 535 in the various US states.

A majority, 394, seals a victory, but you only need 1 more than your opponent to secure victory.

Every state, province, and region gives their votes out on a winner-take-all method.

At gamestart, you begin tied at 33% in every state/region with an expected turnout of 33% and an undecided factor of 25%.

You now get to design your Presidential Candidate. I'll leave it up to you exactly who this person is but I will make the following limits.

1 - One candidate must be from outside the USA. The first two to create their candidates get to have them from inside the USA if they wish.

2 - You can have any past history you want with a few exceptions.
A - You can not take someone elses history. IE if they were the UK Prime Minister for the past decade, you can not also be UK Prime Minister for the past decade.
B - You can not be the current President or Vice President of the US. It is presumed that both of them were originally elected in 2008.
C - You can not go overboard - I get to decide what this is. If you want to be UK PM since 2008, knock yourself out. If you want to be UK PM since 1980, we might have a problem.

3 - You can be any race or gender you wish, but keep in mind that you need to be elected, and some people are racist/sexist. You can be any age you wish, as long as you are over 35. Again, keep in mind people may be uncomfortable electing someone who is 90.

You also must design your ticket!!

1 - There is no job of "Vice President" in the new country. Rather the role has now been split in 2 and merged with other positions within government.

2 - The first additional name on your ticket, and, the person to take over if you kick the bucket, is the "Prime Minister". While not officially in cabinet, the PM gets a seat at the cabinet table and speaks for the President if the President is not around. This is mostly an executive position. The PM is officially a Senator and wins a Senate seat upon election. Should the President die, the PM takes his or her place but gives up their seat in the Senate.

3 - The second and last additional name on your ticket is that of the Speaker. The Speaker gets a seat in the house for free, and becomes the Speaker upon the rubber stamped approval of the House. Unlike the legacy countries that founded it, this country does not require the speaker to maintain support of the majority of the house.

You should keep in mind the job that they will be doing; IE weather it's more legislative or executive, when designing your ticket.

I will be limiting you by locale. If your Presidential candidate is from the former USA, then your PM must be from either the Europe, Canada, or the Pacific. In addition, your Speaker must be from one of those three, but not the same as where the PM is from. If, however, your Presidential candidate is from Europe, Canada, or the Pacific, your PM and Speaker may both come from the US, so long as they are not from the same campaign region.

(( Is this how we are supposed to do this?))

Yes.

Feel free to narrow down location, such as what part of the UK/USA/Canada. While it's not required - as some folks are well travelled - it will give you a boost in that specific area; and moreso if it's unique somehow like Ireland, Quebec, or New Zealand (but, in turn, you'd lose some of the boost going to the area as a whole)

Your first action will be to prepare a platform. In it you must have 7 points - this is to ensure you don't post something like "lower taxes, more services." and also to ensure you don't copy and paste this http://www.labour-party.org.uk/manifestos/1983/1983-labour-manifesto.shtml cause, frankly, I dont want to read all that :p

Each point should be able to be described in no less than a tweet, and no more than 3 tweets, but that's a rough guideline, no need to count in multiples of 140.

I'm going to allow you to be very open with your platforms. Since the new nation really does not have much in the way of a set government - it's neither mandatory nor illegal for cabinet to sit in the legislature for example - you can use one or more of your points to redesign the government itself. You can also do things like "move to a healthcare system like in the UK" or "adapt US tax rates across the country"

You are also allowed to do one campaign event, but at this point in time, only one possible event is available:

Rally the Base
What you do in this is try to get voters who are otherwise not planning to vote, to come out and vote. These are folks who agree with your ideology but can't otherwise be arsed to get out and cast a ballot.
The pro of this is it reduces the number of people who will not be voting - currently at 66% - but the con is that it drives away folks who don't agree with all your platform points.
I'm doing this, in short, to get everyone to do this once; as the way the game is set up, if you do not do this at least once, you'll all end up tied in each state.

Feel free to post a snippet of a speech - maybe a tweet about the subjects you mentioned, or a paragraph or two of a minispeech you gave.

Also, here are your party logos. Note the background is supposed to be transparent, but I don't have a program that does that.

I'm going to actually leave these in here and tell you to pluck them out

Later on you will be designing billboards and lawn signs. They don't have to be anything super fancy. Here are some examples of signs I made in a game I played:

So don't knock yourself out making art, but at the same time I'd like you guys to rev up your MS Paint skills! :D

THE PROGRESSIVE PARTNERSHIP
3OByNPe.png

THE PLATFORM

Point No. 1 : Full Equality
It is our firm belief as progressives all around the country, that no man should be considered less "human" than another for any kinds of reasons. The first thing that we will do is to make sure that everyone has the same rights, be he Mexican or Caucasian, Muslim or Christian, Man or Woman. Intolerance won't be tolerated.

Point No. 2 : One Identity
For our glorious nation to survive, one identity must be formed. We shall no longer be divided by race, but instead we will become citizens of a world republic. We also propose that the new country that has formed by the merger should be called " The Global Republic "

Point No. 3 : Education
Education is one of the basic rights a human being can have. Without it, no human can ever feel safe, especially in a rapid - changing society like ours. We call for education to become a public commodity, free for everyone. We will also introduce educational seminars for adults that want to further pursue an education.

Point No. 4: Healthcare
As with education, the right to have access to public health should never be violated. We endorse the reformation of the health care system to match our standards.

Point No. 5: Cutting back on the army
War in this time and age bears no fruits, and leads only to death and diplomatical isolation. Military costs should be scaled down and we should pursue a more diplomatic approach as a nation when we have to face tough international situations.

Point No. 6: Funding alternative energy sources
As it has been said before, we borrowed the earth from our ancestors to lend it to our children better than it was. But in our times we have only destroyed the environment far more than anyone could imagine. We can and should invest in alternative energy sources for a cleaner and more productive industry.

Point No. 7: The Linguistics Problem
It is quite clear that all regions of our newly formed country do not share the same language or even the same spelling! As such, we believe that it would be best if each region would be to formally keep its previous way of writing. We will also ensure that the local dialects will survive, as they all are part of our cultural heritage.

Still need:

Conservative Candidates.
The default will be a 58 year old white man from South Carolina for President (based on Lindsey Graham), A man from SE England for Prime Minister (based on David Cameron), and a woman from Minnesota for Speaker (based on Michele Bachmann)

Conservative and Moderate platforms.

Already have Progressive Platform and Candidates.

C'mon guys. If you don't want to play because this is something different than what you expected, please say so, I won't be mad.

I still need platforms from the Conservatives and Moderates.

Once I get that I will post the map of current standings. showing who is ahead in each state, province, and region. I will also post a news story covering the platform release and how it's been interpreted by the public.

You'll then get a list of events you can do and you are free to go to town.

Bah-what? I could have sworn that I posted one! I must be going crazy...anyway, platform incoming.
