So been tempted to get the legends of the dead dlc and was reading up about what it offered and came upon the "venerated ancestor" trait (not to be confused with ancestor veneration culture.

So it gives +2 piety and +25% legitimacy gain. But from what i understand it only is applied to dead characters so does your ancestors trait apply to you? Like you get the piety and legitimacy gain from your ancestor? Also is it a temporary trait or permanent, like can i have a series of venerated ancestors?

Also a tad bit confused about legends. Seems like there is no "reward" for completing them from the wiki or am i missing something. Like whats the benefit to completing a highest quality legend versus the benefits it gives while active

I can't answer your main question, but as to completing legends:
1) You will get a legendary building slot - the higher the quality of legend, the higher the chance of getting one. But since I always do mythical, it seems to be 100% chance.
2) You will get the opportunity to make a legendary book for 800 gold (which seems to always be +3 of two skills and renown when equipped)
3) Depending on the type of legend, there's usually another decision - for example, converting large parts of your land, or a special CB for 15 years, etc. Along with an adventure decision if you want to abandon your lands and become an adventurer (completely optional).
Lastly...
4) It costs money to keep them active. Maybe you can afford to keep it active, but since it scales by number of baronies affected, it can become a huge money sink. Complete the legend and you don't have to pay the money anymore.

A book that gives renown per month nice. Ah ok so there are indeed worthwile after effects from completing a legend.
Thanks for the clarfication.

Btw it says legends of each type can only be completed once. Do they mean per character or just in general? (I doubt it since that would mean you can only complete like 3 legends which doesnt feel logical).

You can complete multiple of each type of legend. Maybe the limitation is per character, but I never want to run more than one per character anyway.
While you're considering, Legends of the Dead also adds funerals. They're not really useful, but good for flavor or a quick way to add legitimacy if you're low.

The Legend character's (which doesn't have to be your player character) children and further progeny will get the venerated ancestor trait, and it's inheritable to further offspring - it means "has a venerable ancestor", not "is a venerable ancestor".

I think you just can't repeat the very same legend - you can't do "protector of the holy site" again, but you can do any amount of legends of the same type.
