The game is 5.2, on very hard with lucky nations off, AI aggressiveness normal. No cheating and reloading, no personal unions and claiming thrones - that always sounded like cheating to me.

Well, we are the small state of Ragusa, a noble republic. With a beautiful coast and a breathtaking city of Dubrovnik we believe that we are destined to be a worlds famous tourist attraction. And we want to expand the fame of Ragusa worldwide rather than be absorbed by our nasty neighbors.

Our primary threat are Hungarians, the big oppressor of our Croatian brothers, and cheap bastards that can't swim and don't eat fish or octopus.

Ever greedy and dangerous Venice is another pain in our but because they have a CoT, a large annual tourist income and feel threatened by our tourist attractions.

To the east there are savage Ottomans with their vassals Bosnia and Serbia. They are promoting burqa style on the beach and have a ban on alcohol so they must be converted and they shall be with God's help.

The goal: World conquest

So let's start the journey.

1. Baby steps 1399-1406
2. Expansion to Naples 1407-1423
3. The end of Naples 1424-1435
4. First war against Ottomans – 1436-1449

1. BABY STEPS

A7L7Me7.jpg

Our noble leaders Vijece (meaning the council) have it's advisor summoned.

Vijece: All right, it's the end of the season, how did we do?

Advisor: Sir, we have a few ducats we could invest in marketing and promotion, but the tourists are scarce these days. With the Ottomans on our doorsteps, the poor Hungarians on the occupied Croatian coast and Venetian pirates roaming Adriatic we won't get far next year.

Vijece: So what do we do?

Advisor: We only have one lousy army, a single unit of infantry so we'll need to make you, our ruler, a general, if we want to get somewhere in this cruel world.

Vijece: Yeah, I remember some training with a sword when I was younger...

Vijece turns out to be an average general, but, for the sake of republic, let's hope he doesn't live too long.

Advisor: Sir, the first goal is to find some allies with a large fleet. To ship some tourists in. And maybe we should expand our country with a few provinces to get more manpower for internal touristic purposes until the situation is stable.

Vijece: All right, see it done.

Advisor: Sir, the Byzantium and The Papal State accepted our alliance proposal and we thank them very much.

wZledSU.jpg

Vijece: Great, what now?

t97lJ0u.jpg

Advisor: Well, the summer is over, it's time for a war or two. Let's hope they are short. The Papal State will start the war with Urbino to connect their two provinces. We want Urbino too, especially while the rebellion is going on in our neighbor - Zeta. Naples allows the military access of our troops ... I mean, our troop, and off we go. I mean, you, Sir.

Vijece: Right now? Oh, well...

We can't beat The Pope to Urbino, but we still declare war. The Pope goes to Romagna, while we join the siege from Naples. And we get some prestige on the final battle with the Urbinese army. Then the whole Papal army goes to Rome, leaving us to siege.

Vijece: Was I great? Or was I great?

Advisor: Yes Sir, now sit there until we liberate Ancona. We'll make another two infantry units because we'll have to liberate Montenegro after you're done with Urbino. They have a rebellion going on and we don't want that spilling over to Ragusa.
And Hungary just guaranteed the Ragusa's independence. Remember to send the “thank you” note.

Vijece: They did? Oh, great. We'll send them one of our pricesses to their court. Sent that fat one, she can handle their food. And then we'll send them the warning not to mess with our neighbors. We don't want them around a lot, right? I think I'm getting the point, right?

Advisor: Right, Sir, you do indeed. We don't want them warning us about our own business.

vz9jNtL.jpg

Advisor: Our troops are ready, Sir. Montenegrin rebels were successful and vanished right after they took over. We'll declare war on them to pacify them for good, and fortunately, their ally Wallachia has only The Knights as allies.

akYhVm2.jpg

December 1400

Advisor: Sir, the sieges of Ancona and Zeta go slowly, but their walls are in ruins. We'll start making another transport if we have to go to siege the Rhodes. They have a level 2 fort there, just like Ragusa.

Vijece: Yes, I've been standing there for a year and still they're refusing to surrender. Damn it, I've missed the summer. How was the season?

Advisor: Not bad, Sir. We've sent five traders to Venice. They're making money and checking their hotels and beaches. In case we have to visit them eventually.

6LSgZ0M.jpg

50Q4ITn.jpg

By the end of 1400. we finally won the siege of Ancona and we annex Urbino, the only Italian OPM not part of the HRE. A few months after, we are successful in Zeta and we annex Montenegro as well. It's a lot of infamy for the start, but it's a good start toward not being the smallest fish in the sea. The Knights have stayed on their island so we wait for the second cog to be finished.

Vijece: Have you seen me there? I made them weep and sign the annexation. Let's build some hotels and resorts there, right now. I've had enough of this war.

Advisor: I'm afraid that's not possible at the moment, Sir. Our traders were doing very well until we got to 17 infamy, now we have to go to Alexandria to do some business. The tourists will keep away for some time, until the things cool down a bit. And we're almost broke. But there's still Wallachia and The Knights to beat, Sir. Maybe they have some money.

Vijece: God damn it. It's my turn again, right? We'll go to Wallachia then. I've never been there. How do we get there?

Advisor: Three units through Serbia. And we'll send an army with our fleet to Budjak to confuse them and keep them worried about their capital.

xu6Ad30.jpg

October, 1402.

Vijece: What a mess I made there, have you seen it? We've got Oltenia. How's the situation at home?

Advisor: We have a situation here indeed, Sir. I mean, we have visitors...

Vijece: A cruiser full of tourists? Finally!! Bring out the best whores.

Advisor: The stinking Knights have landed an army in Zeta and sieging it. Right now our brave navy is fighting theirs to prevent them from landing another unit there. But Zeta is about to fall. Better get here quickly, Sir.

Vijece: Shit, I just wanted to finish the Wallachians. How did they get by our navy? Keep me informed.

8nQIDHX.jpg

Advisor: Our navy was in Budjak... Sir, we've destroyed their navy and their army before they landed. But Zeta has fallen and they're marching to Ragusa. Hurry up!

FidBU1G.jpg

January 1403

Vijece: That was easy. We got a lot of prestige, right? We'll split up and sent two units to Rhodes and leave the rest to regain Zeta. I'm off on the boat, wish me luck.

waW27bb.jpg

September 1403

Vijece: Damn it, they raised some nasty rebels on Rhodes, we barely survived. I'm signing the white peace and getting back to Wallachia.

January 1404

Vijece: Look at me, look at me! We're kicking asses.

RNyeWdW.jpg

Vijece: Finally. Now I'll leave my troops here do the sieges while I get some vacations at home. It's been four years of fighting. You do the rest.

Advisor: Yes, Sir.

VRFfkhI.jpg

Advisor: We're minting like crazy because of this infamy. We must enforce some monetary reforms to get a new financial Advisor.

Vijece: Yes, yes, don't bother me until Wallachia is occupied. I've done enough for this war.

YT0et98.jpg

January 1405

Vijece: What the hell, they are poorer than us! We can't annex them with our infamy at 15. We'll make them Catholic. That's a good punishment, don't you agree?

Advisor: A wise decision, Sir. Ottomans have a mission on them and they are too isolated to get just one province. We'll get them next time, maybe.

Uls7Xvt.jpg

Vijece: Holy cow, we are number one. What do we do with a prestige?

Advisor: Not much, Sir. But looks nice. Now we'll lay low for a while, and lose some prestige to get rid of this stupid mission. Get 100 ducats. Yeah, right... We'll try to protect against Bosnia. But first we'll make another boat. Our country is divided by Adriatic sea so we must have a strong navy. And do some reforms in the meantime.

Vijece: OK, I'll take a nap now.

Oh good times!

Who'd do a Ragusa AAR?
You have the important Italian province. Followed the strategy of not having a border with the Ottomans any sooner than you can help it. Grabbing Corfu would be a good next target, unless the Venetians already have it and taking those provinces with high infamy means it's going to take a while before any one can be conquered. Sicily and Naples offer more longer term targets.

@ ATBKING Sure, we'll have a lot of free whiskey and vodka. Once we get to Scotland and Russia. Just watch glorious Ragusa!

I started this game three times just to get annexed by Hungary 2x and Venice. Now I'm playing safe until I get stronger. Paying Hungary to be good to us...
Here comes the chapter 2.

Expanding to Naples

2. Expanding to Naples

Kl80MC2.jpg

October 1407

Advisor: Welcome to the office, Sir. I see you're naturally gifted for administration and diplomacy. But you'll have to be a general too because there's a lot of work to do. Our infamy is still high.
This is the situation: Naples has gained Janina, Pisa has won independence from Milan, Ottomans and their vassals are still fighting hordes in the east and Venice has conquered a few Greek provinces... We don't really care about the rest of the Europe right now.

kkT5mZf.jpg

Mateo Reesti: Let's hope we don't go to war for some time. We need time to lower the infamy. I have some other ideas. We'll help our neighbors
with the rebels. That will keep our army tradition slowly rising. And we'll ease the tensions with our neighbors. Relations with Hungary and Venice should be kept at maximum level. Venice has a core on Zeta.

OJCkTdS.jpg

Advisor: Sir, The Papal State broke their alliance with us.

Mateo Reesti: Never mind them, I think they should be on our expansion list. Rome is a nice place for a holidays, don't you think? They come
there from the whole Europe. We'll make some money after we conquer them.

Advisor: But Sir, they are stronger than us.

Mateo Reesti: We'll ally Tuscany for next few years. They are close enough to help if Pope gets too nasty. Our infamy is still very high: I'm working hard to get it down for another round of expanding our tourist facilities. Shrewd commerce practice will get us money to keep up with technology. And we'll get a new general. I'm too valuable to lose my pretty head just like that.

ehhoJ1X.jpg

Advisor: Yes, Sir. Allesandro Gundulic is the best we have. But it looks you're more skillful than him in direct combat.

Mateo Reesti: Let's hope my wits keep us out of useless wars...

June 1413
Advisor: Sir, Sicilians are asking for our help. Aragon has declared war on them. Why do we even care?

SvMc1Dx.jpg

Mateo Reesti: We have guaranteed Sicily's independence because we are waiting for Nipples to attack them. Then, with God's help, the Nipples will be ours. We'll take a few of their provinces or maybe annex the whole country. I think it will make a nice addition to to our beach in Ancona. There's always sunny and warm down there.

Advisor: You meant Naples, Sir.

Mateo Reesti: That was a joke, and you ruined it...

Advisor: Yeah, yeah. But what about this war, Sir?

Mateo Reesti: Patience, my man. Let's wait and see who gets in.

Advisor: Fortunately only Navarra and Aragon's vassal Tunisisa joined war. Milan, Pope, Aquileia, Genoa and Achaea are on our side. I mean, we are on the side of Milan, they are the leader in this war.

Mateo Reesti: You see. Let's join the war. Aragon is strong, but we don't want to lose prestige by turning down the call for help. We'll keep the low profile, maybe go to Tunisia and learn something about this strange country. Avoid the Aragon's navy by all cost.

Advisor: Yes, Sir, I'll do my best. Should we make some cavalry units?

Mateo Reesti: They are pretty expensive. Let's just... let's pray to the Lord almighty to give us the strength and courage...

sO1X1bl.jpg

Mateo Reesti: So it is, nothing bad for us in this war. They are fighting and we're helping a bit in Tunisia. How's our general doing?

Advisor: Not to good, I'm afraid. Their units are superior to ours. But general Gundulic has managed to escape to Algiers.

Mateo Reesti: Fine, fine. We are doing all right at home, building two constables, our merchants are successful everywhere and our infamy is down to 5. Let's make a white peace because Aragon has annexed Sicily and we can't do much about it.

Advisor: Yes, Sir. Our people like the peace and stability.

2r8Erwo.jpg

Mateo Reesti: Of course they do. You see, they elected me for another term. And we can reward them by giving them more freedom. We'll make tourists come to our beautiful country, mark my words.

Well, it's only temporary instability...

Great economic policy is the main event of 1416 and our fleet makes us proud in 1419. Waiting for some nice war to happen. We can't declare war to any of HRE minors or Mediterranean island states - everyone is allied with some nasty bastard.

VQOE7So.jpg

1419

Advisor: Sir, the Pope has obviously supported some Umbrian patriots. Well, a lot of them. We are forced to retreat to Tuscany.

Mateo Reesti: The Pope will pay for this eventually. The Rome will be ours.

wLxOxmM.jpg

September 1419

Advisor: Sir, Naples declared war on The Papal State. Let's help Pope, we don't want Naples growing bigger than this.

Mateo Reesti: Sure, we will, but wait a while to see who joins this war. We warned Naples and it's a great chance to expand our Italian borders. It looks only Naples, Provence, Ferrara and Poland on enemy side. We won't rush into battle, let the Napolitanians crush the Pope's army.

rRJVtNK.jpg

Mateo Reesti: We'll take a leadership in this war. Call our allies, we should have Byzantium's navy on our side in this war.
Yes, Ancona is... hmmmhm... under rebel control. We'll whip someone responsible for this. The Pope. I'm taking charge of the siege of Ancona while the rebels molest Abruzzi.

HXwcCst.jpg

Our talented prince has died during the siege of Ancona and we have a new election. Our new ruler in times of war is a military guy - Biagio Reesti. Shock 3, all right, that's something.

Advisor: Welcome to the court, Sir. I'm sorry for the loss of your uncle Mateo.

Biagio Reesti: My revenge on The Pope will be brutal. But first we have to deal with Naples and those damned rebels. Let's see the situation. We have two generals and an admiral, but it looks I'll have to lead all the important battles. We just lost a naval battle and the Provencal army will land in Zeta or Ragusa shortly. I'll try to stop rebels from sieging Ancona again, and you take care of the situation at home.

Advisor: Right, Sir, I'll do my best.

ZnxKe8v.jpg

Biagio Reesti: Did I say we need cavalry? Get some! These rebels are too strong.

j9VionO.jpg

Biagio Reesti: I'll try to liberate Romagna and take care that Ferrara and Modena get out of this war. Then we'll see the Naples pays for those Provencal bastards on our shores. We have a chance to shift toward innovative policy and we'll take it.

February 1421

Advisor: Sir, Ancona and Zeta are about to fall. This war doesn't go very well for us.

Biagio Reesti: Don't worry, we still have our army and navy intact. We just need to kick some of the big players from this war. Send our diplomat to Poland and try to reason with them.

pxt6klU.jpg

Advisor: Great news, Sir. Poland accepted our peace deal, we've lost some prestige, but who cares. And Lithuania offered us a white peace. Our war score now will be significantly higher.

0Y36hQ9.jpg

Biagio Reesti: You see, half of the job is done. We took some prestige and ducats in peace deals with Ferrara and Modena and destroyed Modena's army to get some more army tradition. I'm starting to like this war.

lhaSKn9.jpg

Advisor: Sir, you're running form battle?

Biagio Reesti: Not running, just making sure we don't get annihilated because the battle's going wrong way. I'm going to siege Naples provinces while they siege Rome. I know what I'm doing.

wVSpsIA.jpg

Advisor: We lost Zeta and those bastards are moving to our capital. They're trying to land more troops but we'll stop them this time. Aragon has declared war on Naples, and Scotland is with Aragon in this. They will help us.

Biagio Reesti: Just lay siege on Zeta, it will fall shortly with only 100 men in garrison. I'll do the job in Naples.

Advisor: Great news! We won the battle of Adriatic sea and captured en enemy galley. The Aragon navy has helped us a lot.

pidjzop.jpg

Biagio Reesti: Good, good. Now liberate Zeta and let me do my job here. You see, I'm gaining us a lot of army tradition!!!
Advisor: If you say so, Sir.

December 1422

Biagio Reesti: God damn it, we must win over these rebels, before Naples has fallen to enemy hands.

ObOB7Rk.jpg

Biagio Reesti: Yes, yes, yes!!! Finally! Now we'll destroy those bloody rebels.

Mc6PeAt.jpg

Advisor: Great victory, Sir. And our navy was glorious again. With some hep from Aragon and Byzatium we sunk the enemy navy and captured two of their galleys.

We have 12 ships now!

February 1423

Advisor: Sir, you're doing a great job crushing the rebels, but Ragusa is about to fall and so is Naples. We still didn't win the siege of Zeta, Ancona is still in rebels hands so we might lose this war any day now. Can we still fight with two provinces under enemy control and one under rebels?

Biagio Reesti: Hell, I don't know. Storm the fort in Napulia with our Scottish allies. The God is on our side.

rqzwfVm.jpg

Advisor: We won, we have won the Apulia, my Lord. Now hurry and make peace!

Biagio Reesti: All right, it's not what we wanted, but still, our glory is great. We will take Apulia and Calabria. We wanted to get Abruzzi and Apulia to connect with Ancona. This is a great moment in Ragusan history. Our people deserve a peace after three years of this terrible war. Let's celebrate now. We've deserved it.

Last edited:
Ragusa is going up in the world and is now a minor power. The Reesti family have a lock on power in the Republic. I think Mario was too good to be allowed to be a commanding general. The downside of Italian provinces is the rebels are likely to outnumber the Ragusan army. Just let the province fall and then retake, until that is you have an army that is larger than the rebels. The Scots like their roman holidays.

You have fought a war and gained territory. It's a pain Aragon has taken Sicily, but that should mean you can get troops to Sicily when the time comes to fight Aragon. Keeping Hungary and Venice sweet in rather crucial and costly for Ragusa. Even more costly if you don't do it -as you discovered.

The final conquest of Naples ought to be possible. Epirus can and should be released as a vassal -borders with the ottomans ought to be avoided for as long as possible.

Good luck, this looks like an extremely challenging AAR, but I assume once you take Italy things will settle down a little, are you planning to expand upwards into the Empire, take out the Ottomans or just wait for an opportunity?

3. The end of Naples

May 1423
The last of the rebels are destroyed and we are finally ready to cool down for few years.

December 1424
We had some problems on our court. This won't go well in public and we lose stability.

dr988JU.jpg

1425
Advisor: We should push more towards free subjects, our research is getting slower with only one core.
Biagio Reesti: Agreed. Fortunately we only got minor effects of losing some population.

December 1426

Advisor: Sir, the government is divided on the issue of reforms. Should we go on even if it cost us some stability?

Biagio Reesti: We must. Let's hope this doesn't happen too often.

March 1428

Pope becomes Papal controler and excommunicates the ruler of Naples, but nothing happens.

EhTCx95.jpg

July 1428

Our great leader Biagio Reesti has suddenly died and we have a new election. We take a military leader again as we have -0,75 morale on very hard and we didn't take Military drill.

Cipriano Tudisi: All right, I'm ready for another war. Let's kick some ass.

Advisor: I'm glad you're so eager to spill some of our peasant's blood, but we'll have to wait for the right opportunity. We're still a small and divided country and we walk a thin line here.

Cipriano Tudisi: So what is there to do? I know nothing about government.

Advisor: Just sit down and do some plans for a future. We still have to punish The Papal State for all the turmoil the rebels caused. And you should plan another war with Naples – they are much easier target for annexation now.

Cipriano Tudisi: OK, I can do that. Keep me up to date.

DJDWDF8.jpg

7CIUqW7.jpg

1431
We get a chance to change our policy towards aristocracy. Nobles want to flog their servants and again we lose stability.

u63ECgf.jpg

November 1432

Advisor: Sir, great news. We have become the Papal controller.

Cipriano Tudisi: Great! As much as I'd like to excommunicate the Pope himself, we'll settle for less. I'll excommunicate the king of Naples.

Advisor: That won't be smart my Lord. We still have a 5 months of truce with Naples and we cant afford that now because someone else might conquer them. Like The Papal State, Venice or Aragon. Wait a while.

Cipriano Tudisi: All right. But we need some stronger allies now we are a five province state. Break up the alliance with Tuscany. I'll find us a better ally in no time. Make us a few regiments, we'll go to war soon.

Advisor: Right, Sir.

NOyRA8n.jpg

December 1432

Our brave leader Cipriano Tudisi found himself in Apulia when the rebellion broke out and lost his head in a battle. We had to elect a new prince, again straight from the military academy.

zWfkInW.jpg

Isidoro Ghetaldi: Gear up for war! I'll get those rebels first and than we'll pay a visit to Naples.

tqTq2x7.jpg

January 1433

Advisor: Sir, we had excommunicated the king of Naples as ordered. Get ready for a quick war.

Isidoro Ghetaldi: Our troop are ready, our allies too. Blow the horns! We go to war.

7YE8Mha.jpg

Advisor: That's fine. We have Naples, Provence, Ferrara and Mantua against us, but Provence is the leader. They'll call the English, Sir.

Isidoro Ghetaldi: Never mind English, if we do it quick, we'll get Naples and peace out with England in no time. England is weak now after the war with Castille, their fleet is no longer such a big threat to our aliiance.

Advisor: Yes, we fight the England now. Good luck, Sir.

July 1433

Advisor: Sir, we lost control of the Pope. This war was just in time!

ZA48wdv.jpg

Isidoro Ghetaldi: The war is going well. England and Provence managed to land some forces in Naples but not much. England has lost a lot of navy in recent wars and only had 4 transport ships along with some carracks. You could take some armies from Ragusa to join the attack on Ferrara.

Advisor: Let the Byzantians conquer Ferrara and Modena. Focus on our primary target - Naples. We won't annex any of them because they're too close to Milan.

rhrFeux.jpg

Advisor: Sir, Byzantium conquered Ferrara. They are poor, we got just 3 ducats.

NArQSY0.jpg

Isidoro Ghetaldi: There you go, English. You have died in vain.

gK93XHh.jpg

VkWOIaK.jpg

Advisor: Great work, Sir. Now wait a while and make peace with Provence before you annex Naples.

Isidoro Ghetaldi: That's it. The Naples is gone and our country is starting to look like a real power.

Advisor: We've done our job, Sir. I think we should end this war even without conquest of Modena. We should focus on peace now and keeping potential rebellions in south Italy under control. Make peace with England.

4jRmF6Z.jpg

Isidoro Ghetaldi: Right said, Fred. Give peace a chance. Let's see where we are at this point of time. I like this map of Europe. Look at Ragusa, in the center of Mediterranean. Once we liberate our Umbrian brothers from Pope's oppression we won't be afraid of Hungary or Venice.

vgAR2Yk.jpg

Advisor: Yes, but we should also try to expand to eastern Balkans. We can't have our capital so close to Ottomans and their vassals. Soon we'll get our first cores and then we'll be smarter. Let's hire a good diplomat to lower our infamy. Then we can continue expansion. I think we should aim for the greatest achievement – to rule the whole Mediterranean. Then we could have lots of tourists without worries about enemy fleets and barbarians on our coast.

gepHdk0.jpg

YceGPAp.jpg

We are getting wealthier every year. This is the result of our traders in 5 COT's, but with our infamy back to 8 this will go down for some years...

GzS74SF.jpg

March 1434

Advisor: Sir, our crazy Byzantium allies just declared a war on Cyprus.

Isidoro Ghetaldi: Oh, I see. And you're worried about France standing on Cyprus's side. Let's wait and see where this goes. If they dont react soon, we'll join this war.

a0icuG2.jpg

August 1434

Advisor: Sir, a new war is upon us. Aragon is attacked by Morocco and we have warned Morocco. Shall we help them?

Isidoro Ghetaldi: Sure, as long as we don't get into war with Ottomans too soon. We can handle Morocco with Aragon's help. Let's focus on navy battles, we might capture some more ships. God knows we'll need a lot of them.

cwywJLS.jpg

September 1434

Isidoro Ghetaldi: Here – the Cyprus offers us white peace. See that this war is over. Let Byzantines do what they want with them. Karaman has joined the war against Morocco. But France, Castille and Portugal are on our side. Send our admirals throughout Mediterranean and capture anything you can!

EEnqyLl.jpg

January 1436

Advisor: Sir, we've done what we can in war against Morocco. They have no more ships to capture. Now the great expansion opportunity is on our eastern borders. The Ottomans are still in war with Aragon, but their main armies are on Asia Minor. On Balkans side are just their vassals forces – Bosnians and Serbians out numbered by Aragon's army.
We should declare war on Ottomans before their army crosses the Sea of Marmara. Our navy combined with Byzantiums is superior to theirs. The time is now!

Isidoro Ghetaldi: Exactly, my friend. Gear up our land units. We go to war..

Yes, it's quite hard with low manpower in 5.2.
I plan to conquer the Papal State and slowly go to northern Italy, depending on opportunity and who's the Emperor. And expand to Balkans, the opportunity just knocked on my door.
I'm trying to stay low on infamy while I'm still small and use merchants to keep up with research. Once I get larger I'll conquer some COT's and let the infamy as high as the limits allow. And then the fun with lots of wars stars! :D

Whiskey? WHISKEY?
The shame, the shaaaaame! Bring out the sljivovica!

Tudisi died in December 1432, but he remains for the rest of the update, all ghostlike letting Ghetaldi concentrate on leading the army.. Good job finishing off Naples.

Trading requires low infamy, which reduces the scope for big costly gains. I feel you missed a trick in not using the Pope to call a crusade against the Ottomans whilst you were controller. You can't rely on there being a handy crusade someone else declares when you do want to fight the ottomans and gain some east Balkans provinces off them and take down Bosnia and Serbia as well. The downside to that is that it leaves both Venice and Hungary with nothing to do. Historically they'll fight. Aragon is at its high water mark. A frisky Castille and you look as if you have one in this game usually spells doom for Aragon
